Morning Buzz: What’s USC Need To Do In Utah?

I asked a USC coach on Wednesday night about what the Trojans must do this weekend.

“We need to protect the quarterback better,” the coach said. “It’s not just the line. It’s everyone. But we need to be focused. We can’t have false starts because of the crowd. We got bothered (by the crowd) at Oregon State and this is supposed to be a lot worse.”

“We’ve had a lot of luck in the turnover game. We’ll see if that continues.”

  • Caleb Williams on his performance so far this season:

“I’ve played all right,” Williams said. “I feel like I can play a lot better. I don’t feel like I’ve unlocked everything that I can do in my ability. And I’m trying to get to that because this team needs my best throughout this last stretch of the season since we’re in the second half of it.”

      1. Michael,

That is nice that you mentioned me since my first name is Paul. yes, my grandpa was a jokester but also a God fearing man. God Rest His Soul. Miss my grandparents, family members, and parents so much. Thank you for the nice compliment.

      1. Hey Caleb, why were you crying like a little bitch against Oregon State? And please do something with that raggedy crap 💩 on top of your head, you resemble the scarecrow on the wizard of oz .

    1. This would be a great week to actually unlock that juicy, delicious posterior for me, and everything in the front that’s hanging to the left. 😋😋 I bet Caleb will absolutely love what I do to him…don’t ya think?

You are not welcome here if you write like that. There are children, teenagers, wives, girlfriends, and friends that read these blogs. You are not funny. If you need to write like this, take to the ruin board. Not tolerated here.

      2. Oh ok, Pasadenadummy, I’ll get right on it. But the fake steveg49 uses a Trojans 42 jersey, because he always wanted to be a football player.

    2. I like Caleb and I think his skillset is just what USC has needed for years —BUT —everyone here needs to listen to that interview he did yesterday. THAT was NOT the same confident Caleb we heard from pre-season. It almost seemed like he had TOO much on his mind. This NIL thing has brought him all kinds of opportunities —but it seems like he senses, deep down, it presents distractions from his main deal: playing college football…..

      1. I’m thinking Caleb has watched a lot of film of Utah by the end of Tuesday. He knows he is gonna have to make quick reads and get rid of the ball quickly.

Per the computer algorithm which I favor, this defense is on par with Wazzu. I favor Utah is a tad better across the board. Add in a hostile fanbase on a nice Saturday night in SLC, and the USC offense is gonna struggle. I’ll give my score prediction on Friday, Michael, but I am heading off to the liquor store to pick up a nicer bottle of Bourbon.

      2. Pressure bursts pipes. I think the pressure cooker is getting to him. Something’s been off since the first half of Stanford. This week you smug Trump supporting USC fans finally lose. 🙌

      1. Sam [a pretty darn mobile QB] woulda beat them in 2016 except for that fumble in the endzone [in what was his first start cuz Helton was too dumb to make him a starter after the Alabama debacle]……
[Bourbon: I’m having trouble with your cryptic prediction —will we pull it out or not? Give us a clearer hint —or is the “better bottle” my answer?]…..

      1. No way, Pasadenadummy, Caleb is just a cock sucking Bozo. It has nothing to do with the offensive line.

    1. Eric –please go on YouTube and watch Caleb’s WHOLE interview — there was hesitation in his voice —he didn’t sound “all in”—- I don’t know exactly how to describe it —let’s just say he didn’t sound like cocky, confident Leinart before the Oklahoma game and leave it at that…..

      1. MG, I will watch the interview after the post. I wish LR would let him get interviewed after he doesn’t put up big stats, did he do that at OU? My opinion is that he trying to coddle his ego or just controlling the media from getting inside the fractured and soft emotional mental state of Caleb. There is a reason he promotes mental health, look at his whole NIL deals part owner of Male Grooming Company. Caleb just play better and make your mark on the field, leave the off the field stuff for the offseason

      2. I told you clowns that Utah is going to curbstomp USC, Caleb knows it too.

He can’t trust the offensive line and the TE’s trying to block are a joke, they give less than a half ass effort.

Caleb is going to get hit just like Slovis

      3. Eric —Just think about it: Reporters were asking Caleb umpteen questions about his charities and his nails during the biggest game prep week of his life. And he can’t say fuck off —he has to carefully field their questions as though he were running for office. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s a hell of a lot to put a young man through —I hope he finds a way of dealing with it all.

      4. MG, this is LA, national n local media have put him as the next great one. We are just asking him to play better regardless of what is going on around him. All great QB’s make others players better. Ditto Magic Brady Peyton. If you don’t like constructive criticism then your in the wrong market n wrong sport, then maybe we are asking too much of him? I do agree with you with part of your post. I just think he’s need to buy all the way into what LR is trying to get him to do.

  2. What interview are you watching? Can you folks calm down? If the starters are healthy enough on the o-line then pushing some true sophomores should not be a problem. Playing faster on offense should be the main goal. Like the coach said, protecting Caleb is the main goal. Defensively? Be more aggressive than Utah and force them to play with pace. Losing three of their top receivers will be an issue for Rising. NIL means nothing when a defender is trying to pound you into the grass.

    1. Every time I’ve heard someone say “calm down” they’ve always been the ones who need to do it.
All I suggest is listen to yesterday’s interview with Keely Eure [or however she spells her name] and tell me what you think. Afterwards, if you’re happy, I’m happy.

      1. I think he is afraid of Utah front 7 or afraid he can’t match DTR performance from last week. I know I am a hater but he does NOT sound confident. Maybe lean on the running game is the best bet?

      2. It might be a good idea [if he hasn’t done it already] for Lincoln to kindly explain to Caleb he needs to get his head fully into the game. When Ali fought Spinks the first time he spent 50% of his training time promoting the fight…and lost. The next time around he spent 100% of his time at his training camp in the mountains …focusing on the rematch…. and NOTHING else.
Caleb’s whole brand —Superman — depends on him being 100%.
I’d love to see him live up to his FOOTBALL potential. All the rest of the goodies depend on it.

  3. Scooter,

The opposing teams are using the same defesne against him. Let him rely on the running game. Also, he has to stop improvising and just execute the play. Get the ball out in 2 seconds or less.

  4. It’s called pick your poison. You play coverage and the Trojans run the ball down your throat. Crowd the line of scrimmage and it’s one on one and big plays or qb scrambles for big gains. Utah allowed UCLA to attack them in space. Now, your telling me they can fix that in a week? Against the best QB they will face this season? With sophomores on the d-line? And Utah’s ability to adjust is not as capable as USC’s. See if Utah doesn’t start blitzing in the first half. That will tell you how confident they are guarding on pass defense. With Devaughn Vele, Money Parks and Dalton Kincaid the only receivers who can get open. They better hope Solomon Enis can play a whole game or they will be one dimensional by halftime.
