Arizona did something Saturday that I can’t believe other teams haven’t done more often against USC: It targeted cornerback Ceyair Wright ahead of Mekhi Blackmon.
Blackmon always covers the top receiver but teams have been pretty consistent in not letting that bother them. Blackmon had six tackles vs. Rice; six vs. Stanford; seven vs. Washington State and six vs. Arizona State. It was the Oregon State game where Blackmon had an interception and infuriated Beavers’ fans who felt he was grabbing the receivers too much.
But Blackmon had only one tackle vs. Arizona. The Wildcats didn’t throw much at him. I don’t know why you wouldn’t target Wright. He’s a first-year starter and remains unproven even after eight games. But I guess coaches prefer to just throw to their best receiver.
I’m giving a rare compliment to Jedd the Fisch on this one. It doesn’t make up for hiring Johnny Nansen but it shows he is thinking outside the box. The Wildcats had 380 yards passing so by-and-large Fisch probably was pleased, except for when he had to settle for field goals.

SC gained 621 yards….411 in the air and that was with an injury laden offense . I don’t think that I would be giving too many kudos to the Arizona defense.

I’m looking forward to seeing more USC Sooners football. Lincoln Riley shouldn’t waste anymore scholarships on defensive players since his Sooners don’t play defense.

I think Wiley has evolved since his Sooners’ days and knows what he needs to make it to the Big Dance which is a balanced attack on both sides of the ball. It doesn’t take a genius to realize this, but the college game has changed in that we are seeing 45-35 type scores with regularity which means if a team can hold the opponent under-30 then they are probably a very good defensive club

It was pathetic that the game was only on PAC-12 tv. Without the proper tv provider subscription it’s impossible to watch. Why can’t the PAC-12 tv just let people stream the game from their website?? Don’t they think their advertisers would want to reach as many viewers as possible?? It’s a terrible situation to deliberately chop off the audience.

Not thrilled with Dish, but none of them are great. We’ll stay with them for now.

For the USC games only on Pac 12 network, I either take the one week free trial (Fubo) or for the Zona game I had to buy Sling (plus pac12 network) for one month ($26–worth it).
Irrespective, after next year Bryan you can count on the Big10 network to keep you happy.

As you mentioned, FuboTV lets you do a 7-day free trial. Just use a new email address and sign-up each week USC is on the Pac-12. (That’s what I did this season.) Free email addresses are easy as pie to come by. And Fubo knows people do this; when you cancel, they ask why you are leaving and one of the canned responses is “I only wanted to watch one game.” LOL!
The move to the Big Ten can’t come soon enough.

I think that Grinch is working with a very challenging situation – a defensive line that is not that talented and linebackers that are quite plainly very poor. So he is being creative looking for solutions. That means games wont be pretty, but USC just needs to have 3-4 stops in a full game to come out on top. Even 2 stops might give them a chance at a win.
USC fans should just accept that this is what the team is this year. \
Cant wait for the UCLA game. I would much rather lose to Notre Dame than UCLA.

I was kinda’ OK losing occasionally to the Beavers during the Pete Carroll years. IMSMR, Pete owned UCLA and ND.

Grinch is doing an ok job. He just needs to do more stunts and defensive lineman do delayed blitz. Because our Dl just misses the QB just by turning a different way because all of our DL just run straight up the field while the Qb just steps up n kills us with the pass or scrambles to pick up first down. My other thread wr need to play press coverage to throw Wr timing on short routes. Please do more film study with Lb to show who is covering the back coming out of the backfield and safeties picking up wr in the zone or boundary. Too many open receivers with no pass rush. We shouldn’t be having miscommunications on the backend. That tells me a lot of players don’t know what they are supposed to do. Why aren’t you correcting mental mistakes it’s week 9. Fight on

Wolf is right on today’s analysis. Jedd did a pretty good job calling the game. In all fairness, some of Ceyair’s PI calls were ticky-tack. If the WR’s hands engage/hold the CB, then the CB is allowed to return the favor.
Gamer is correct. Grinch is working from WAAAAAAY behind with his defensive talent. The safeties are playing well–despite the 70 yard bomb breakdown vs Zona. Blackmon is projected to be a round 2 pick in the NFL. The rest of our CB’s need some work.
We have raved about Tuli here, but he is projected to be a round 5 or 7 pick (if at all). Needs to up his draft selection with a “NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER, TULI!”
I’m fine with Gentry skipping the Cal game–if needed.
Play vs CU and then UCLA and ND!

Their QB is talented. Their O-line and D-line looked pretty pedestrian in the game I watched this weekend.
Wilcox always has a tough D, even if they are not looking as great this year. Cal has played some really good offenses so far this year.

Caleb won’t get the Heisman, but if there was a college FB “MVP” award, he probably should get that. Ohio State would be fine without CJ Stroud. USC wouldn’t be fine without Caleb.
Does anybody remember Scottie talking about how many picks Caleb was going to throw this season?
He is averaging close to 300 yards per game passing, with 24 TD and 1 pick.

…Also… Caleb is gaining in confidence with every game. I think he was a little surprised by the intensity & quality of Pac 12 play in Corvallis. Now, after Salt Lake, he seems ready for anything thrown at him —up to and including bullshit calls.

some fishy stuff going on in sports; that doesn’t make sense with what the actual rule’s of the games are. Screw the integrity of the games and fans. The powers that may be don’t give a rats ass about an even playing field or court anymore! Think about it it’s all about the money and revenue nowadays. While we watch in anger or don’t give a fuc anymore, and do something else with our time. Because of the obvious cheating and the controlling of games for money.

Tuli Tuipolatu will not leave USC so his draft status will not improve. If he were good enough then he would get projected higher. The idea is that scouts see a lack of experience from him. Nic Figueroa played a great game against a standard college talent line. The secondary had too many breakdowns. I think we’re going to see more blitzes from Grinch up until UCLA. I wouldn’t blitz DTR. Mix coverages and make him run. Does Joe Biden coach for USC because I don’t get the point of staying the obvious that he’s a mediocre, old politician?
