USC Notes: Progress vs. Colorado

USC did better Friday night with its uniforms.

Raleek Brown did not wear yellow socks. Denis Lynch did not wear white cleats. Baby steps.

I got this email from a USC graduate over the weekend: “You know the uniform standard has gone completely to hell when even an obscure walk-on feels entitled and emboldened to wear the yellow tights.”

  • The USC-Notre Dame game will kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT and be televised by ABC.
  • USC odds to win the college football national championship are 40/1 according to BetOnline. Last week was 55/1. Here’s a week-by-week chart of the odds.
  • Caleb Williams is 7/1 in BetOnline’s Heisman odds. C.J. Stroud (6/5) and Hendon Hooker (4/1) are the frontrunners.

  1. For those who care…The ND game will go into SC’s record books as a day game, that is, not a night game. SC defines night games as games starting after 5 pm, local time. (N) means, simply, that the game started (actual time), after 5 pm. In compiling game chronologies, it is easier to have a hard and fast rule rather than to check the contemporary newspaper records on sunset times.

  2. and….given the USC-UCLA game 5:00 start time…., that goes into SC’s records as a night game. So, the rule, to be precise, is 5 pm, or later, to get an (n) on the USC chronology….

My hate and disdain for the minion’s of satan go beyond hate. I ehop and dream that when ugly plays cal at cal, the earth opens up and swallows both teams and closes right away.

      3. A lot of times when I want to hate, i will think of ugly. You have Angela Davis, Bill Walton, Johnny “Cheetin'” Wooden, the traitor Herb Albert, who played in the SC band but donates to the communist regime, the jerks that walked on the 405 freeway when the ruins did not go to the rosebowl. I would have ran them over. Hate is an understatment

  5. I always have thought that to enjoy the best in sports competition that you actually have to have active head to head encounters. While many people don’t see UCLA as being the blue blood football team that USC is, they do have their own unique history. They have had some incredible players and some have had huge success in the NFL. That often happened in the shadows of USC – Troy Aikman never played in a Rose Bowl, but he is one of the all time great NFL QB’s. UCLA has had some phenomenal athletes in a variety of sports. If you took USC and UCLA as their own countries in the Olympics, they would each be one of the top ten countries in medals. If the PAC-12 were a country, they would be an Olympic juggernaut.
What this all goes to is that without your counterparts, a rivalry would not exist. The Dodgers would still be the Dodgers without the Giants, but it just wouldn’t be as much fun. These two weeks ahead we have two of the most unique rivalry games in the history of college football. I’m going to enjoy them and there’s no reason to “hate” either team or their fans. I have always had a great respect for the Irish fans in particular. They have been a class act as far as I have experienced. A distant cousin of mine was a very good QB for them and I have always followed them for over 5 decades. Appreciating a rivalry is enriched by appreciation for your rivals

    1. ND fans are great! Being a Catholic school, it’s sort of expected. They, more than most, know there are much more important things in life than football.

But it sure does make fall Saturdays fun!

      3. Yeah I guess it’s the 10% rule – that in any population about 10% will be down at the lowest part of the bell shaped curve. I do have some great memories of other teams fans. It reminds me of the Texas / Alabama game I attended at the Rose Bowl in 2010. I was in line to get a beer. A Texas fan said his goal was to stay in the beer line for the whole game and have other people just buy him beers. I appreciated his enthusiasm and honesty and so I offered to buy him one if he could chug it. I did and he did. Several other folks showed him their hospitality and he was throwing them down like a trooper. I often wonder what happened to him. It was a great game and too bad Texas’ QB got hurt early on

  6. The Concept of a “Uniform” was destroyed by the Pac 12 allowing Oregon to have a different pretty little outfit every week, even with the number 8 not being immediately recognizable unless you look at it for a few seconds. Speaking of Oregon, the comments from many of their fans regarding Travis Dye’s injury was despicable (karma is a b, etc…). After Uncle Phil passes, they maybe can go back to the backwoods where they came from.

  10. Cut it out. Republicans lost independent vote. Frank Lutz is the best pollster on the republican side. He explained what happened. News flash: it wasn’t all on Trump. People wanted that stupid $10k college loan relief and Republicans were against that. Publicly. Repeatedly. Stupidly. 50/50 independent vote split was game over. Plus, 5 million MORE votes were cast for Republicans on the House side. Why didn’t that translate into more wins? Gerrymandering districts turned into superblocks that protected incumbent Republicans at the expense of expanding the vote including sloppy candidates who did not use mail in votes as an advantage. Lack of experienced managers. Michael Moore called this election for liberals, that is embarrassing.
