Recruit Flips From USC To UCLA

Defensive lineman Grant Buckey of Bakersfield, who was committed to USC, has flipped to UCLA.

I have to admit I wasn’t quite sure of all the hoopla when Buckey, a three-star, committed to USC.

But now, for whatever reason, he is going to UCLA. Bruins fans must be ecstatic to flip a USC recruit given the current success at USC. UCLA’s defensive line coach is former USC assistant Chad Kauha’aha’a.

      1. I’m not sure my heart could have taken a sequel, T Bruin, but I don’t expect Utah tomorrow to be a walk in the park either

….good night he looks like an upright boar…what a visual indelible sight for his squad to ‘…don’t put on weight – keep in shape…!’

    2. It is a bummer mg you know you would a lot better playing Utah than ucla again i don’t think DTR would turn it over 4 times again in a rematch

      1. Probably not. Given that he turned it over 4 times last go round, my guess is he’s now afflicted with the yips. So, taking that into account, and thinking conservatively, 7 turnovers would be more like it.

  1. USC’s recruiting remains a mystery to me, you just dont hear about alot of forward progress, but how can recruits not be interested? I actually though Buckey had potential. You have to wonder if some of the local recruits will be replaced with some national recruits in the coming weeks.

      1. or maybe we are going transfer portal heavy….

Shaun Nua is up for the Broyles Award and the offensive line is up for the Joe Moore award. That should say something about the quality of development.

The only thing that could possibly hold back USC’s line recruiting is if the NIL deals are not good. I think Bohn has somewhat screwed the pooch when he killed an outside collective.

  2. SC’s national image has been over-hauled since the Trojans picked up this 3-star kid and now Troy is looking for the nation’s very best,

So perhaps SC told the kid he better look for another home but in order to save face Troy would allow it to look as if it was the kid’s idea to leave not SCs,
Much like a CEO of a large company being found guilty of murder, and then “asked” to ‘resign’ or step down instead of a publicized outright firing

  3. Riley to Bucky: Bucky, good news and bad news, what’s that coach? Bad news,Your NIL is worth only one week’s of Taco Bell in Westwood. Coach what is the good news? Your NIL is worth only week of Taco Bell in Westwood.

Coach Chip Kelly to Bucky: Kid come on over, I will get you two weeks of Taco Bell in Westwood, Bucky, I am there coach. That is how it went down.

      1. T Bruin,

Thank you. I did not know that. It would have been interesting to see a rematch like that. That will be a problem with this new format. Th better teams will probably meet up again for the title game.

  4. Since we are on the subject of ‘theories,’ perhaps the kid turned to sucla because SC told the kid that the Trojans were going out of the football business because Troy has nothing further to prove

  5. Was it a flip or did USC ask him to move on? That’s the one guy among the 2023 commits that I’ve always said “Why did they go after him?” I looked at his film and he look downright slow. He was getting blocked by smaller guys. He wasn’t able to bull rush these guys. I really think they are expecting to get better guys and they need the spots. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen with a few more guys although I like all the other recruits. But if you can get better….why not?

I guess you have to let off steam after yet another loss to USC. I hope you can find another girly girl screechin’ QB like DTR next year. We will miss his turnovers.

  7. They need to put some restrictions on this NIL nonsense or it will ruin college football. Miami is just buying players. Miami could finish 0-12 for the season and they would still be in the top 10 in recruiting. Who’s going to turn down that kind of money? With that kind of money to hand out, sooner or later they will win a national championship. The problem now is that they have a coach who is only one step above a car salesman. But if they will spend that kind of money on players, they’ll do it with coaches. If they don’t do something about the NIL, teams won’t be winning a NC, they’ll be buying one.

      1. The NCAA is always sitting on the sidelines until they want to go after SC. Then they really get into the game bigtime. I guess they feel that they have to earn their salary somehow..

        Liked by 1 person

      2. You mentioned Miami…Isn’t it also ironic that Paul Dee was the Athletic Director of Miami during what NCAA investigators have called the worst violation of the rules they have ever seen?…..

Dee was the biggest hypocrite in sports in recent memory, if not ever…..For example, USC/Reggie investigation

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Putting Dee as the head of the NCAA is like putting Al Capone as the head of the FBI. But remember, the commissioner of the SEC was the head of the rules committee(and may still be) of the NCAA. You wonder why the SEC could openly cheat for a long time and the NCAA looked the other way. The NCAA has been corrupt for a long time.

  8. Revisiting the apparent acceptance of a future 12-team football playoff it still behooves a team to make the “Final-4” in order to avoid having to win 4 games in a row to win the Title.

As it is when the field is trimmed to 8 teams it will still take 3-wins to win it all, a tall order indeed

    1. Attrition will play a huge part in Going through the playoffs. Teams will have injuries and no time really to get well. The teams with depth will be the favorites to win it.

  9. Assuming SC can take care of business tomorrow, and I still don’t understand why most Trojans are so cocky about the outcome when ‘Vegas thinks it is only a 3-point spread,

Then do I root for Kansas St to beat TCU so SC can play Michigan or for TCU to win so SC gets Georgia?– I haven’t a clue about the strengths of either team but my gut says take Michigan because SC won’t give up 5 major plays to the Wolverines as Ohio St did

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Why do you think they are cocky. Most people I read are just excited and gung ho for their team. Hell, go to a UTE site and they sound just the same. Vegas places a line and adjusts it according how the money is flowing. Take whoever you want in the playoffs, everyone there has a fair shot and I am sure will bring their best game.

      1. I understand Vegas’ betting strategy to even out the bets, Steve, but still, a 3-point spread is a 3-point spread which speaks to the objective opinion that this game is pretty to a close call

  10. I could be wrong but I think that they advised Buckey to move on for his own best interest career-wise. Otherwise, why would he want to leave? SC is losing 3 main guys off of the D-Line after this season and so far they haven’t recruited a lot of guys on the D-Line in the 2023 class. It seems like the perfect opportunity for him. It makes me think that they have a bunch of guys ready to sign and they need the space. It may be a good sign for SC and all their fans.
