USC Notes: The Deep Dive Turned Out To Be A Quick Dip

That “deep dive” Lincoln Riley took into USC’s defense was more like sticking a toe in the water for a few seconds. It lasted one week.

I wonder what happens as USC coaches are currently looking at films from last season. Do they reflect? Or do they just blame the players? The transfer portal is a savior for the blaming players theory.

  • Do we have to remind everyone what a clown this USC superfan is?

  • Robert Horry has addressed get ejected from the gym last night at St. Francis High School during his son’s basketball game. Notably, he does not apologize (of course).

    1. Ed, I hope john takes you up on your offer to ansur his qwesschuns .

While you are at it, maybe you can answer a couple of basic questions about the constitution that seemed to stump a current federal judicial nominee during her Senate confirmation hearing. Article 2 – should couldn’t recall. Article 5 – she couldn’t recall. This is sad…

      1. She said that these “issues’ don’t come up in “my trial court.”
No shit. But that’s not the point.

      2. Michael, there are only 7 Articles of the US Constitution…the first three specify the three branches of federal government. How can she not know what they are? This is something a high school civics class teaches…or used to back in the day.

      3. Not entirely her fault, 67. Her civics teacher thought it was more important to tell the story of the 3 musketeers that day…..

      5. If you want to see something funny check out Finland’s [“groundbreaking”] transgender skater’s routine yesterday. Yes, Finland gets to claim first transgender competitor …but she/he takes a fall after 20 seconds….and literally can’t get up…..

  1. It’s been a busy day for me. I drove to my nephew’s home to give him all of my HO scale trains because I have no place to run them and he is still loving trains. And between loading and traffic, I haven’t looked up.
So I have to wonder who Scott hates more “fanboy media” or Alex Grinch?
Yesterday I took a couple of deep dives into the Friday column. First I wondered who created the Butch/Sparty mascot picture. In the 1950s a Disney artist Arthur Evens made side money designing college logos. Unfortunately he used repeated drawings. For instance Ucla, Baylor and a couple other schools all had the same bear with school lettering on a sailor cap. Butch was used at both USC and Michigan State and called Butch at both schools. In the 70s a student at Michigan State changed the name to Sparty (the official mascot name) and copyrighted it.
As for the Ucla band not being invited, the best I could find is a mutual hatred for each other, which led to the lack of invitation. The article I read was written by a Bruin and blamed USC for the animosity. He pointed to the field stabbing drum major and a football game between the band’s as fuel for the hatred. I just think they are too sensitive.

    1. No one ever cried about the field stabbing until whiny Mora got there. He brought that from the Nat’l Felon League and their prison mentality of what constitutes “disrespect”.

The Great Train Expo is coming to the OC Fairgrounds in 2 weeks! (If your nephew’s not a Super Bowl guy, Sunday will probably be a lighter crowd. But there’s always Saturday, if he is.)

  3. Should have gotten rid of Grinch. He had a month to prepare for little ole Tulane and he couldn’t do it. I don’t think time will be the savior for 2023.

    1. The offense has to be the savior. If we score 3 or 4 points a game [around 45] we’ll probably beat everybody we play.

      1. Maybe stopping the opposing team, Michael, is not as sexy as scoring on that team, but it seems to win a lot of football games and I think
31-28 games are more exciting than 48-45s, it is supposed to be tough to score touchdowns

  4. Odds-and-Ends–
SC did not pick up all the players they wished-for in last year’s ‘Big Recruiting’ weekend because they were an unknown entity, 4-8 in 2021 not helping its cause…

How many years ago and my wife and I are having dinner with other friends
when Horry hit a 3-pointer to win an important playoff game, and my buddy and I hit the ceiling…Still, Robert, by all accounts you are a gentleman but in this apparently
‘New Age of Anger-What Does it Lead-To,’ public displays of anger r frowned upon…

Aren’t we past Christmas, I hope so because I am running out of money–
But wasn’t it during the December-Holidays that Grinch stole Christmas,
so stop already with all the ‘Grinch’ talk, it is a New Year for ol’ Grinch…

Let’s hear it– ‘NFL, NFL, NFL’– Yes, I jest
Yet tomorrow’s unofficial titled “Semi-Finals for SuperBowl’ is intriguing
Betters, stay away these are 50-50 bets at best and you need 60% winnings
    to even break even
I know nothing about these 4 teams I am a college-football addict instead
and so knowing nothing I figure I am on a ‘par’ with most everybody else’s opinions

San Francisco at Philadelphia– last time I was in ‘Philly’ I said I’d never go back again
‘San-Fran,’ as the locals like to be called much as USC adores “Southern Cal’
Consists of the ‘7-Hills’ or is it ‘6,’ enchantingly planting themselves by a ‘nice’ Bay
And so for ”Frisco’ that’s all I got to say

Cincinnati at Kansas City, is anybody else playing besides the 2 quarterbacks?
Well it is a ‘QB’ league as witnessed by quarterbacks going down and the team follows

      7. You call me delusional for mentioning the remote possibility of a civil war. Depending on the poll, 33-50% of the country is concerned about it. That doesn’t mean they think it’s going to happen.
