USC Morning Buzz: A Five-Star QB Derby To Replace Caleb Williams?

USC continues to battle Georgia and Nebraska for five-star QB Dylan Raiola.

Is Raiola not scared off by five-star Malachi Nelson, who signed with USC and is already enrolled in school?

It’s not unprecedented. Arch Manning signed with Texas despite watching Quinn Ewers start at Texas last season. But Raiola’s got Nebraska ties (he will visited there March 25 and his uncle is an assistant coach) so some believe the Cornhuskers will eventually land Raiola.

It would be quite a QB derby at USC if Nelson and Raiola are in spring practice one year from now trying to replace Caleb Williams for the right to face LSU in the 2024 season opener.

  • USC is going to start spring practice on March 4 and the spring scrimmage will be held April 15. Practices will be held Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday.
  • Here’s some highlights from USC commit Isaiah Collier last weekend. The pass at the 18-second mark is worth watching.

    1. The answer, Eddie, is ‘No’

Meanwhile, I didn’t know Scott had a thing for SC basketball with roundball barely getting an occasional footnote nod

But this Collier kid shows that a clever assist can be as much fun as making a difficult 3-pointer

      1. It would be quite a performance for that recruit to both have already visited and yet to visit Nebraska on the same day !

      1. Excellent insight as always Mr. Fuke,
however in this ‘acceptance-age’ I am not quite sure
if you mean this as a compliment or not

  1. Nothing wrong with having 5 star QB’s – plural!! The opportunity to play with the elite receivers we have and learn from the best offensive coach in college football is a golden opportunity. No worries about being a high draft choice for the NFL, there will be plenty of interest from the league. On average, about 10 NFL teams need improvement at QB in any given year and the paychecks will be waiting for USC QB’s

    1. ‘The World According to Wolf’ is similar to Garp’s because they both saw things no one else saw like the kid who ‘folded up time’ to have visited Nebraska in the past and now plans another visit, all happening on the same day.

Chemo-fog brain has nothing on Wolf

  2. The difference between this upcoming season and last season will be depth. Now having leaders like Tuli and Travis Dye will hurt so I’m watching to see if new leadership will emerge for next year. Especially on the Defensive line.

  3. I’ve watched film on Archie Manning. He’s obviously good but is he great? I never get that impression from the films. He gets a lot of print. YES! That’s probably because he is a Manning.

      1. I don’t know why he went to Texas but I wouldn’t rule out money although he is a Manning and his family has plenty of money.

  4. Raiola has great pedigree and Nelson is a physical freak. How cool would it be if the two end up competing. With the portal the loser could easily transfer
