I’m continually unimpressed by the soft coverage of the Pac-12 and commissioner George Kliavkoff, who seems to still benefit from not being Larry Scott.
The goal posts constantly move and few complain. Now we hear the Pac-12 probably won’t do a new media rights deal until it adds new members like San Diego State and SMU. Why is this suddenly being reported? Wasn’t it just as relevant last summer? Up until this week, it was assumed a media rights deal would be done before expansion. The delays for the media deal never cease.
We also hear that the Pac-12 might put a large number of games on a streaming service? Will that be any better than the Pac-12 Network for the average fan?
I also saw comments when the Big 12 struck its media deal that the Pac-12 was confident it would surpass the Big 12. Now I see estimates that it might not be the case.
And through all of this, continual fawning coverage of Kliavkoff. I’m not saying he is doing a bad job but how about some skepticism at least.
I don’t really care that much what happens with USC moving to the Big Ten. I just get tired of people always spinning new developments as being a positive. The fans are going to be unhappy with aspects of the new TV deals. Guaranteed.

Yes, Ed, I feel so much better about my country after the speech last nite,
And to the news that the Pac-12 is having difficulty getting a media deal done, well, since SC is leaving after this year I would be more interested in studying the sexual habits of flies to tell you the truth

I am a little curious to see what becomes of the conference.
SDSU was not a surprise as a possible replacement, but SMU was.
I’d rather see Utah State or Colorado State get in. But that’s just me being a traditionalist…sticking to teams near the Pacific.

Hey So Cal, if you like teams near the Pacific, how about ON the Pacific aka University of Hawaii

Sorry Michael, my bad, I forgot that ‘tainting’ is part of the Pac-12 package

That works. But giving CO or UT an in-state/conference rival would be ideal.
If they can’t get it done, by all means go with the Rainbow Warriors!

The TV market has nothing to do with the teams that have the potential to become part of the PAC12…..RIGHT?…..IT’S ABOUT THE BENJAMINS(think)

LJ can you imagine the squawk over flying to Hawaii every week? It’s not a bad idea, but those poor students and the air miles. Shudder to think.

True Ghost, but it is 2300 miles to play Rutgers and Hawaii is what, about 2500 miles?– Take your pick

The NCAA permits Hawaii and teams who play at Hawaii to play an additional game during the regular season to recoup their unusually high travel costs to and from the mainland

Could be, MG, but truthfully the only time I dropped a tablet I looked upon my beloved ocean and it appeared to be nothing more than an over-sized bath tub, losing all of its mystique and magic for me.
Never tried it again

SEEMS LIKE A moot point since SC is moving to the B10(committing suicide in my opinion).
ON A BRIGHTER NOTE I just finished reading a great autobiographical book by my favorite SC football player…AL CARMICHAEL … ‘106 yards’ is the title(relating to his NFL record). It is a massive book, written years ago…many ,many SC pictures. YES he played on the 1952 team which beat wisconsin in the ’53 Rose Bowl, and that is my post for today.

Good historical (I almost wrote ‘hysterical’) stuff as always, Tim,
but I am glad I came along in the 1960s because the 1950s was kind of a tough decade for our SC Trojan football teams

IN ’52 THEY HAD A SHOT AT THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP…but having to play on the frozen tundra at ND cost them, they were #2 after beating #3 ucla the week before 14-12…THEY LOST 9-0, but the win in’53 Rose Bowl made up for it. Half the starters went to NFL.
The ’59 team started out 8-0 then the flu hit the team. Everybody played both offense and defense the whole game, subs were rare. They lost to a good ucla team and back in the snow to ND. As MG stated the Arnett yrs were good, but the PCC penalities were killers for SC. In’55 they lost to Ohio St in RoseBowl,in the mud and rain.

San Diego St and SMU (who were once banned from playing football and lost their coach to TCU) will replace USC and UCLA. Why doesn’t Kliavkoff admit the obvious and just beg to be the JV conference of the B1G? What’s so bad about being a subsidiary? No L A schools have turned the Pacific Coast conference into the old WAC. Wasn’t that the reason they had the alliance or confederation or whatever that failed experiment was.

I have Pac-12 network on Spectrum. I’m just waiting until the end of the 2023 season. Then I will probably drop Spectrum(which is getting too expensive) and go to whatever other source that covers SC.
