Mater Dei has hired Frank McManus as its new football coach.
McManus is a long-time assistant (16 seasons) and coached defensive backs the past seven seasons.
Former USC/Mater Dei players Lenny Vandermade and Khaled Holmes were named as candidates for the job.
The new coach is significant to USC because of its recruiting ties to Mater Dei.
Here’s a statement from former Mater Dei coach Bruce Rollinson, who is a USC graduate.

Bruce Rollinson is a remarkable man. Love his statement looking forward with enthusiasm, support and pride in the coaches, administration and tradition. No personal bows for his own great achievements. Wishing him the best “retirement.” Thankful for his contributions to the success of all the fortunate young men he coached.

BRUCE AND I PLAYED FOOTBALL TOGETHER AT USC. HE WAS A SOPH WHEN I WAS THE SENIOR CAPTAIN. BACK THEN WE ALSO HAD A MATER DEI CONNECTION. ON MY FRESHMAN TEAM, WE HAS SIX MATER DEI PLAYERS AND THEIR FORMER HEAD COACH, DICK COURY, AS OUR FRESHMAN HEADCOACH AND DB COACH.

Rollinson – junior wannabe version of ‘Joe ‘Pa’ Paterno. No blowback on him, nope just another egomaniacal ‘coach’ with far too much power for far too long and, based on that statement, he’s still going to run things ‘his way’. He ain’t going no where.
