Eric Gentry Undergoing Surgery

USC linebacker Eric Gentry is undergoing ankle surgery today, which means that high-ankle sprain injury he suffered vs. Utah never really healed properly.

Gentry was USC’s best linebacker last season but missed three games after hurting his ankle in the first Utah game. He returned for the final three games but didn’t appear 100 percent.

Gentry still nearly led USC in tackles despite the missed games. He finished with 71 while leading tackler Max Williams had 79.

  1. Why did he wait 1 1/2 months after the season to decide to have surgery– this means he will miss Spring Ball but he was so good
perhaps he did not need any further training

    1. Probably trying to see if it could heal on its own. Did not, hence the surgery. His talent was apparent last year, so probably not a big deal if misses spring training.

  2. Gentry is the ultimate football player – check him out hopping onto the field from the injury tent to get in the face of the D to perform:

Prayers out for a full recovery.

    1. You HAVE to love this young man. [btw, it was obvious he wasn’t himself against Tulane — it took a ton of guts to play on that bad ankle]…..

  3. Because Gentry didn’t have an issue with not being at spring ball last spring, with more depth, he won’t be needed until the Utah game in the Coliseum. I assume he’ll play before that game, I suppose. With more players and not just bodies, the linebackers will be just fine without him until then.

    1. I hope they don’t just forget abut him and he just sort of gets lost in the sauce (as one pundant likes to say). Gentry really is a good football player.

  4. AFTER HIS SURGERY, HE NEEDS TO ADD MORE WEIGHT! AS A FORMER USC LINEBACKER (66-69), YOU TAKE A BIG TIME POUNDING IN THAT POSITION. A VERY GOOD LB, BUT HE LOOKED A LITTLE TOO SKINNY,
