A Potentially Hostile Situation

I’m going to take a wild guess that there are some UCLA defensive coaches who used to coach at USC that are not happy campers at the moment.

Why?

Because UCLA has reportedly hired Baltimore Ravens safeties coach D’Anton Lynn as its new defensive coordinator.

That means UCLA coach Chip Kelly hired a 33-year-old with no experience as a defensive coordinator over Ken Norton Jr., who has been defensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks. Kelly also bypassed Clancy Pendergast, who now has been ignored two straight years for the UCLA defensive coordinator’s job. I’m hearing you can throw defensive backs coach Brian Norwood in that group too of guys who might not be thrilled they didn’t get promoted.

If I’m Kelly, I probably would have done the same thing.

But Lynn’s first challenge will be to win over his older colleagues that report to him.

    1. Taking your words, “I could do without it” and “The blog is much better when he’s not throwing that stuff around. With that said, why do you feel it’s necessary to voice your political rhetoric on a daily basis when no one wants or needs to hear it.

      This blog is dedicated to all things related to USC, not your political opinions. If your grievances must be voiced, take them to a venue that might share your common ideology. You have posted well over 250 consecutive posts without anything related to or mentioning USC.

      Instead, try to realize your comments are consistent with a “troll” and no one responds to them. Why continue to post comments that have no relevance to the blog. If you truly are an adult try contributing in a constructive manner. Or, continue to express your narcissism and swim in an ocean of hypocrisy.

  5. How does Wolf know the “not happy camper coaches” he mentions aren’t on board with Chip’s DC decision.

    I mean, I bet UCLA D. coaches don’t say no way to Chip’s decisions like C. Williams does when LR makes a vacillating decision adversely affecting Caleb the Monumentals H/T audition.

  6. What happens at Ucla, stays at Ucla. I really assume a new coordinator will want different coaches. Prendergast is a fraud and always has been. Norton will do alright where ever he lands. It helps USC to believe Ucla will have a good defense going forward, because you always prepare for what the other guy has. We have our own defense to worry about.

  7. I agree Ghost, if Norton leaves or is let go Riley ought to pick him up as an analyst on defense, having him in the wings in case Grinch totally blows it next season.

    1. No disrespect to Norton, but something just doesn’t add up with him. He was a DC in the NFL for 7 years, three with the Raiders and four with the Seahawks. But he’s been reduced to an LB coach at the college level and is being passed over by a guy with 1/3 the experience.

  10. Well Chip has destroyed UCLA. Another non recruiter on the staff. That guy will not be able to run that system. Utah has lost a ton of production, Oregon is a mess, Washington has to play in L A, Deion is not going to enjoy the officiating, the Irish have little offense to worry about. No Beavers next year.

    Grinch just has to do his job. What could possibly go wrong?
