Morning Buzz: Lincoln Riley Says USC Staff In Demand

I’m becoming more convinced Bronny James will end up at USC, especially after he scored 10 points in Sierra Canyon’s 80-61 loss to Notre Dame on Tuesday night.

LeBron James tweeted Monday that Bronny was already better than some NBA players.

Maybe Notre Dame guard Caleb Foster is the one who is ready. He had 28 points and will go to Duke next year. Foster did not make the McDonald’s All-American team. James did make the team. Go figure.

  • Lincoln Riley claimed his coaching staff was in demand in the offseason but decided to remain at USC.

“I got quite a few calls about our staff, which is to be expected with the quality of people that we have here,” Riley said. “For our guys to want to stay here, they realize what’s coming here and that’s exciting.”

Who wanted Alex Grinch or Donte Williams? And who would offer any of the assistant coaches more than they make at USC?

  • If the fanboy segment of the UCLA media found out Jaylen Clark’s injury, would they even report it?

Their coverage of the basketball program is so fawning, I doubt it. No. 1, it would anger Mick Cronin. It would also infuriate their loyal readers who buy into all the conspiracy theories that the NCAA committee will downgrade UCLA if Clark’s injury is season-ending.

Before that, it was UCLA’s move to the Big Ten that was the reason for a preceived slight by the committee.

If you think I’m wrong, on Tuesday you had a UCLA writer misquote Arizona’s Azuolas Tubelis regarding Jaime Jacquez winning the Pac-12 Player of the Year Award and then send out a tweet with quotes from Tubelis and Jacquez to purportely show how Jacquez was more gracious than Tubelis.

Only after deserved pushback from Arizona media and fans demanding a correction did the tweet get deleted. But it showed how ridiculous tribalism can become among fanboys as they are always trying to suck up more than their competition. I’ve shown countless examples of USC fanboy media doing it too, just so no one thinks UCLA is getting singled out here.

    Good!
[Now we need my friend, Owns, to offer rebuttal]…

Yeah, which high schools were interested?

Not only is ‘Ol Mule Shoe a clown that doesn’t give two shits about defense, he’s also a fucking liar. Who the hell would want any of USC’s defensive coaching staff?

      Total Bullshit!

Sincere question: Who’s worse — Donte or Callaway?
[Personally, I have to go with Callaway –Donte actually improved the O-line & running game when he took over: USC went from 98 rushing yards per game to 103]…..

    3. Lincoln Riley is fucking Delusional if he believes his staff is in demand, for what and for who? Take Caleb Williams away, and the current staff is no better than Clay Helton’s. Riley can’t land 5 star linemen just as Helton couldn’t. The transfer portal is keeping the Trojans competitive. 😂

      1. P. S.
There isn’t the faintest comparison between Helton’s staff and Lincoln’s. There isn’t the faintest comparison between Helton and Lincoln. We’re extremely fortunate that Coach Riley decided to give this job a go.

      1. How does someone who averages 14 points a game as a guard/forward become a high school All American. What a joke. And LeBron sends his kid to Sierra Canyon, one of the most privileged high schools in the country. Tuition plus room and board is $73,000 a year. Kylie and Kendall Jenner were once cheerleaders at the school. Doesn’t sound like the James family is suffering from oppression here in America in the year 2023 but you would not know that by listening to LeBron who has repeatedly gone out of his way to disparage his country. I will no longer watch a Laker game as long as he is on the team.

      6. Inquisitive One: Of course LeBron can advocate for the less fortunate. It is admirable to do so and it would be nice to hear that he has donated his time and money to programs that help these people. But to say that white people are inherently racist against black people and privileged when he lives in the all white community of Brentwood and he and his kid enjoy the privilege that goes with celebrity and money smacks of hypocrisy. Remember, this guy criticized Drew Brees for simply saying that he has an uncle in the military and will always stand for the national anthem to honor the country and those that served. According to James, Brees, who has donated millions to youth sports programs in the underprivileged areas of New Orleans, “just doesn’t get it.” Drew was pressured into apologizing for his statement. I think James is the one who doesn’t get it and owes service members, the police, and others an apology.

  3. You guys are really comedy to think that LeBron hates the U.S. Good luck with that. Lincoln was never specific about which coaches were being asked about. Grain of salt and typical coach speak. Tape don’t lie and Grinch better get it right. If people are calling Riley about coaches, maybe it was Riley who called them about THEIR coaches availability?

Scott Wolf has zero credibility when it comes to any basketball comments. Looking for UCLA drama is an indictment on his character.

      1. That logic is so absurd. I said President Biden cares more about you than you care about your fellow Americans. In other words, God he sucks but Lord, please help him do his job and keep us safe. Just like I say for all of the people who have been President of our country, are currently in office and will become President for all of us. I know you care, but only when it’s convenient. Pointing out Biden’s flaws but ignoring your own (starting with making fun of someone older than you) is a sin. If you don’t think so, then your good.

  4. Have you ever written a long post only to have it disappear into the aether that is this blog? After you post you look up and down the page believing there must be some mistake, but alas you cannot find it. This happened to me this morning. So, this is a paraphrased version of my original post, which may make my original appear. I apologize in advance if that has happened.
Scott is already in midseason form so I have some predictions to make about the coming season
First by the third week of September he will have coined a new nickname for Lincoln Riley. It will either be Nero, or Caligula. Nero fiddled while Rome burned or Caligula who would f** anything that moved.
Second, sometime shortly after using his nickname for Riley, he will quote a coach, who says Riley is leaving for the Mountain West conference in 2024 ( but we all know he’s secretly going to the Chargers)
Third, Scott will call Caleb’s performance mediocre after an eight touchdown scorching of our November 18th opponent.
Forth, we will read that a coach named Chip has been prank calling Scott for years and is the “a coach I spoke to” Scott has quoted in many articles .
Finally Scott will admit he only attend USC because their acceptance rate was higher than the state school in town, but he was turned down by his first choice and has been bitter about that ever since.
Things our lead journalist will not do this season.
First name a source to lend credible evidence to his writing
    Second cheer a decisive victory.
    Third add an edit feature.
Forth, make this a forum about USC where USC community members can discuss USC things without name calling trolls adding useless blather or repeating taunts as toddlers do.

First President in history to serve a full term and increase the deficit every year he was in office.
First President in history to maintain a debt-to-GDP ratio over 100% for his entire term
        The highest annual budget deficit
Most added to the national debt in a single term
        Most new unemployment claims
Largest single-day point drop in the history of the Dow
First President in almost a century to lose jobs in his first term
First major party candidate in half a century to lose the popular vote twice
The longest government shutdown in history (and he did that while his own party controlled both chambers of Congress)
First President in the history of approval ratings to maintain a net negative approval rating for his entire term
First President to be impeached twice
First President to have bipartisan support for his conviction after impeachment (which happened both times)
Most indictments, guilty pleas, and criminal convictions of members of an administration

  7. You do understand that Ukraine has been attacked since 2014. But I guess that’s Joe Biden’s fault as well. Denial indeed. Let me remind you that Israel is under the threat of a nuclear attack. China wants to destroy us indirectly because they cannot keep up with us and that Russia is being a bully since their kleptocracy is bankrupt. Yet no one is keeping you from writing like in China or Russia, calling the leader of this country demented, as they would throw you on jail in Europe, or having you fight your rants in court, which Republicans are trying to do in Florida. Your grievance politics lack credibility. No one is going to replace you. Biden will leave. I promise.
