USC Plays Michigan State In NCAA Tournament

USC, the No. 10 seed, will play No. 7-seed Michigan State in Columbus, Ohio, on Friday in an East Regional first-round game of the NCAA Tournament.

If USC wins, it will probably face No. 2-seed Marquette.

Michigan State is 19-12 overall, so they are hardly an unbeatable opponent. The less attractive aspect for USC fans is Tom Izzo vs. Andy Enfield.

Michigan State is also about 250 miles from Columbus so the Spartans should have a distinct home-court advantage.

UPDATED: The USC-Michigan State game will be at 9:15 a.m. PT. Andrew Catalon, Steve Lappas and Jamie Erdahl will be the announcers.

      1. Duffy would not know what to do with a roundball, George,
but Bobby Knight lives just up the road from Ohio St.
although I doubt he follows Spartan-Trojans basketball, football maybe

  1. Winnable game if they, as a squad, prepare each other and forge themselves to rely on each other and not to the coaching staff for confidence…. find the drive to win within each other just as they would if they were playing an after-school game with their friends.

    1. You are dreaming about beating any team away from home. The
team is worn out and poorly coached on a neutral or other team’s
home floor. Who did they beat this season on the road? Best game
losing by 2 at Pauley to ucla. Utah was a dead team when they played
the Trojans. Women are one and done, also.

  2. Tim Floyd took SC to 3 NCAAs in a row but one year was forfeited due to O.J. Mayo, so this is the first time the Trojans have been NCAA bound 3 years in a row.
“Thank you very very very- much,” Enfield, only I mean it.

And the time has come for ‘Dandy-Andy’ to show the master Tom Izzo
that there is a new sheriff in town, but it won’t be easy inasmuch as the starting-5 for the Michigan St Spartans all shoot well, especially the 3s

But even if the Trojans can somehow get by Izzo Marquette is waiting in the wings, so goodbye any real chance of Troy sniffing a Sweet-16

  3. Tom Izzo basically Jim Boeheim; a media and coaching profession darling who last won a NC in 2000, prior to Boeheim. Izzo Probably better than anyone else that MSU could get to replace him.

  4. SC landed a good spot. Thought they’d get an 11 seed after PAC 12 showing.

Other than Arizona St, not sure who benefitted or suffered from tourney? Maybe UCLA gets a 1 seed if they beat AZ, but both went in as 2’s and left as 2’s.

  5. Enfield’s been at USC since 2013. I think the best he’s done is Final 8 which is better than any of his predecessors. Maybe O’Neill won a conference championship in 2009 commuting to USC from San Diego. I believe Enfield and his brother both live in Palos Verdes, so I don’t think he’s looking to move. He’s got a good recruiting class coming on … Give Enfield some time … he’s better than what USC has had since Stan Morrison.

    1. DUMMY, ever hear of Henry Bibby who got to the elite 8 losing to
Duke. Beat Kentucky on Hall’s free throws and basket off the bench.

      1. Does the “S” stand for Stupid, stupid– Bibby also lost to Duke that same year when the Trojans were loaded with Clancy, Blumenthal, Scalabrine, Trepagnier et al

    2. that is going back in time…he may have had the all time basketball SC recruiting class
and then SC screwed all that up…again

  6. What other mischief awaits, how about Woman-
So the sports news is all asplash with SC Men’s Basketball to the NCAAs 3-years now
meanwhile the SC Women’s basketball team also made the NCAAs if you can find it anywhere in the news, almost as if a mere ‘footnote’ to the Men’s ‘essay’

Why?– Nothing personal ladies but it comes down to ‘entertainment-value,’
Heck, recently the U.S. women’s soccer team out-stripped the men in popularity
But when it comes to basketball, and many women shoot with the best of them,
the men with their physical advantage of being bigger and probably more
    acrobatic ‘win the day’

  7. I am going to die laughing if USC goes further in the tournament than UCLA. Cronin, stop wearing out your best players and get rid of the predictable last five minutes offense.

The women of Troy lack firepower. I’m not convinced that this coach can win at this level.
