USC Notes: Lots Of Polls Out

USC is ranked No. 25 in this week’s Baseball America Top 25 poll. This was never expected before the season.

  • USC is ranked No. 16 in basketball analyst Jeff Goodman’s first preseason Top 25 for next season. UCLA is No. 12 and Arizona No. 15. USC is also No. 16 in ESPN’s early poll. What a coincidence!
  • Andrew Guzman has been announced as USC’s new provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. He has been the dean of the USC law school. He replaces Charles Zukoski, who was provost from 2019-22.
  • There will be a parade Saturday in San Diego for the Aztecs basketball team. It will start downtown at 10 a.m. and end at Petco Park at 11 a.m.
  • This was tweeted after UConn and San Diego State won last Saturday. There’s no stopping fanboys.

      1. Correct, So Cal! It’s the 21st century …tebow is free to love whomever he wishes… we will all continue to love him regardless of his choice….he doesn’t have to hide his feelings behind stories about Coach Riley…..

      2. There’s only one possible reason ‘Ol Mule Shoe would not replace know nothing Alex Grinch as defensive coordinator, Grinch is his lover and ‘Ol Mule Shoe can’t bring himself to do it.

      3. Only one reason, huh? Not that the man picked up his family, including two school aged kids, and moved them half way across the country to support a man he obviously admires & respects.

I’m really sorry you’ve never had someone believe in you, in spite of what all the naysayers were screaming. I have. I’ve also championed others when the odds were against them. One of the best feelings I’ve ever had in this world is when they proved my suspicions correct.

Leaders do not get people to believe in them.
Leaders find ways to get people to believe in themselves.

Don’t get me wrong. If we don’t see marked improvement over the next couple of seasons, I’ll be looking for his dismissal, too. But we need to cool our jets and allow Riley to do what he believes is best for the team, just as he was hired to.

      4. socal – i like that you are loyal even when it is not popular! that is the true measure of integrity – standing for something when it makes you more vulnerable.

    1. MG, with a healthy Bruin team, the UCLA vs UConn, West region winner, all things being equal, would have been NC…it would have been the marquee game of the 2023 NCAA tournament.

      1. That is so delusional. If USC had both Mobley brothers this season they would win everything. If Kareem used a hot tub time machine UCLA would win everything! If – ah, what’s the point? If and buts were candy and nuts . . .

      1. UCLA will rate low in the pre-season top 25, but finish much higher in the polls.

SUCC, on the other hand, will be, as usual, highly overrated and wind up with a mediocre 8 – 4, 2023 record.

Caleb “the Destroyer” Williams, will have trouble matching his last year H/T glory, and the bozos will saddle essentially the same lackadaisical defense.

      2. The defense will appear improved…until we need them.
As for the offense, it will be even better than last year….

  1. Scooter,

I don’t believe SC will be that good in basketball for next year. They are too soft and they don’t run a dicpline offense. They have to learn how to play like San Diego St. and Michigan St. those two teams will play physically to grab rebounds and to driving the ball. SC loses Peterson and Ellis and that is the leadership for the team. I like that kid Kobe who was very effective as a freshman. We will see. SC will get bounced int he first round of the pac 12 tournament and the ncaa trournament, if they make it.

  3. Whoa Ratpublicans, Donnie Boy is indicted on 34 FELONY charges. That has got to sting. How long before the Ratpublicans start evacuating the Trump garbage scow?

      1. What the hell are the 34 felony charges. This gets to be more laughable every day. Think he will try for a change of venue?

      2. His lawyers are so fucking dumb they let him plead to an indictment which doesn’t specify the felony statutes involved. When Bragg was asked to specify them he said he “doesn’t have to!” Bottom line: Trump doesn’t even know what he plead Not Guilty TO. NO ONE does.

      3. P. S.
Trump will prevail politically —not legally. This case will still be around [to get dumped] when Trump becomes Prez again.

  4. Well David pecker (if that ain’t an appropriate name) will testify against Trump about his payment to Karen McDougal. Then there is the irregular payments to his employees using “gifts” to avoid paying money to his employees while claiming said gifts as income to the state and IRS! Finally, The Donald sends his lawyer to jail but now is shocked that Cohen exposed his scheme to hide his prostitution payment from the media and feds-a minor misdemeanor turned felony! A spectacular moron of epic proportions!

      3. So Cal — Biden thought long and hard before coming up with “Big Guy.” He wanted to make 100% sure no one would ever associate him with Hunter’s business deals. And, boy, did he. Kinda reminds of what happened in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. When the 3 fairies —Flora, Fauna and Merryweather —wanted to hide from Maleficent they started living in a cottage & calling themselves Aunt Flora, Aunt Fauna and Aunt Merryweather…..

  5. Just spitballing here, MG would know better, but willfully charging a H/P or any defendant with falsified felony allegations is, I believe, a major felony in itself.

The Manhattan DA didn’t fire 9mm caps at Trumpy, the DA lobbed 34, 120mm artillery shells on Trumpy and legal team bunker.

How many times has Donnie Boy claimed innocence, only to, a week or so later, confess culpability for the allegation he vehemently denied?

I remember when he claimed he didn’t know Stormy Daniels.
