Lincoln Riley’s Spring Wrap Updates

USC coach Lincoln Riley said this morning Florida offensive lineman Ethan White has an injury that is expected to prevent him for playing football.

Riley on the defense allowing a TD in just three plays to start the spring scrimmage: “I don’t read too much into that drive. I get it from the fans and you guys, but I’ve got about 100 drives to judge it on from this spring. Mario (Williams) made a phenomenal catch.”

  • Riley said he thought the offensive line was “solid” in the spring scrimmage.
  • Riley on the run game at the scrimmage: “There was some good things in the run game. I thought the backs missed a few cuts but had some explosive runs. The two young guys had some nice runs.”
  • Riley on backup QB Miller Moss: He is “pretty clearly the second guy right now. That’s no surprise.” That was clear to anyone who watched the scrimmage.

“I thought both those guys (Moss, Malachi Nelson) had very valuable springs. Miller’s really progressed. He’s throwing the ball better, moving better. I thought he had a really good spring.”

  • Riley said Raleek Brown missed part of spring practice with a soft-tissue injury, which was the reason he played only as a slot receiver. He will also play tailback if he can remain healthy.
  • Riley on adding players in the transfer portal: “We’re still in the market on the defensive front.

“The biggest thing with the portal is the time crunch. It just happens, typically really, really fast. There’s no face-to-face contact and the timeline puts a crunch on it.”

  7. “Inside USC” posters: what say we limit the scope of the blog to its original theme? Lots of good stuff gets posted here, and from many good and knowledgeable people. It would be a shame if all that info got buried and we lost what makes Scottie’s corner a unique place for USC fans.

  11. When asked about the progress of the defense, Riley responded by telling the press Caleb Williams looked great. After being pressed harder regarding the defense, Riley said the running backs made some great cuts in the backfield to find holes to run through.
