USC Notes: John Jackson Commits To Nevada

Former USC wide receiver John Jackson III has committed to Nevada.

If he gets to play, it’s a good decision.

  • How much buzz is Deion Sanders creating?

Last year’s USC spring game aired on ESPN and drew 287,000 viewers.

Colorado’s spring game on ESPN last Saturday drew 551,000 viewers.

  • Here’s a Big Ten scheduling tidbit that is relevant with USC joining the conference.

Michigan is scheduled to play 18 consecutive non-conference games in Ann Arbor between 2018 and 2025.

The Wolverines will not play a non-conference game away from Ann Arbor between the 2018 opener at Notre Dame and a 2025 Week 2 game at Oklahoma.

  2. Why does playing even matter if you dont have a chance at the NFL? Better to get as much education as you can at USC and focus on getting a great start on a career path.

These players somehow believe if they can just get on the field they will find a path to the big show.

Many of the starters at USC wont even play on Sundays, so why would a starter at Nevada get a chance?

I assume that as a football player they have a foot up on the average USC graduate in landing a great job, particularly from an alumni.

    1. Agreed with Gametv. I always liked JJIII and his whole family. When he got a chance in the spring scrimmages, he looked good but was not explosive. I understand wanting to play, but my God, Nevada. Why? It seems that that a local program like UCLA or Fresno State or Cal or Stanford could have used him. This is a real disappointment. Sad.

  3. Jackson and Michigan’s football schedule cannot eclipse (calypso) Belafonte this day-
A 1929 Depression baby, Caribbean island living was not always romantic,
but its people made the best of it as evidenced by some of Harry’s songs–
This is my island in the sun
Where my people have toiled since time begun
I may sail on many a sea
Her shores will always be home to me
All my days I will sing in praise
Of your forest, waters, Your shining sand

And his people could be whimsical from Man Smart (Woman Smarter)–
Hey, you meet a girl at a pretty dance
Thinkin’ that you would stand a chance
Take her home, thinkin’ she’s alone
Open the door, You find her husband home
    Or
I was treatin’ a girl independently
She was makin’ baby for me
When de baby born I went to see
    Eyes was blue
    It was not by me

And finally as his dusk turned to nightfall today–
I hope the day will never come
That I can’t awake to the sound of drum
    Never let me miss carnival
    With calypso songs philosophical

Bon voyage Mr. Belafonte and as we say in the States, “Thanks for the memories!”

      1. And Trump hinting that he might not participate in any, if his lead remains as big as it is. So weak!

But we all know his ego is too big to skip out on that stage time. LOL

      2. He should have some say on who the moderators are, no Fox News employees or Don Lemon.

      1. Steve, all I would add is that even with the jobs program, they will still be sitting around with too much time on their hands.

    1. Ed —Speaking of ‘time’ did you see the “Get A Life” episode where Chris Elliot puts some thyme, a wristwatch and a lock of Michael Fox’s hair in a blender so he can drink it down and go back in time to stop his roommate from urinating on a policeman in 1969? I consider it kind of a classic since it deals with many of the depthy issues Gabby and So Cal discuss on our site everyday…..

  7. Scooter,

I like JJackson. I don’t think he had a fair shake with Helton and now Riley. No, I am not there everyday at practice, but when I did see him practice and play, he looked as good as anyone else. He would make a good slot receiver. good luck to him.
