USC Morning Buzz: Beware TV Streaming Deals

Former Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren definitely has some Larry Scott in him.

And it looks like a good thing he departed, especially after ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Warren gave the 2026 Big Ten title game to NBC “without the full authority to do so” and behind the back of Fox. That sounds like Scott.

So does the part about Warren expecting a bonus from the new TV deal, which the Big Ten athletic directors are probably against at this point.

Warren also “forgot” to tell the Big Ten powers (like Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State) they would be playing night games (actually 4:30 p.m. PT) after the first weekend in November, which they traditionally do not do. That sounds like Scott too.

All this makes you wonder if Warren and Mike Bohn cooked up any surprises that haven’t been fully divulged when the USC/UCLA move to the Big Ten takes place?

Now, to be fair, the money the Big Ten is expected to pay back ($70 million) to Fox for the Big Ten title game in 2026 and 2020 lost football revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic amounts to only 1 percent of the total TV deal. That’s not a big deal.

  • But here’s the part that interested me: Warren originally tried to sign a deal with Fox/CBS/Amazon but Big Ten schools pushed back because they didn’t want so many games streamed. The new deal substituted NBC for Amazon, which originally was going to get that 4:30 p.m. PT game.

That is why Warren gave NBC the conference title game because he needed a network over a streamer. There will be eight games on Peacock this season. But that’s far less than if Amazon were a partner. From a fan standpoint, it’s a lot better having NBC as a partner than Amazon. Or any other full-time streaming service.

Let’s see how many games the Pac-12 starts streaming in its new TV deal. It won’t be good. It could be half the games in a worst-case scenario.

Streaming can be awful at times. The MLS has gone 100 percent streaming on Apple TV and is already offering a one-month free trial.

  • If you want to some real madness, look at the N.Y. Yankees’ TV schedule this week:

Sunday – Peacock

Monday- Off

Tuesday – YES

Wednesday – Amazon Prime Video

Thursday – YES

Friday – Apple TV+

      1. I’m old enough to remember going to the game on Saturday and watching the replay the next afternoon on a local LA station , having every game televised was unheard of.

Now you have CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, FSN1, CBS SPORTS, SEC NETOWRK , BIG TEN NETWORK, ESPN, throw in ESPN + on streaming and then possibly add Peacock, Amazon, Apple and maybe Youtube, that sounds like a fun way to find a game every Saturday

  1. That was a mouthful, Scott, not sure I am all that interested, but it beats the pants off the last segment where the Fundamentalists were out in full force knocking the gays and anybody or anything that facilitates their agenda. Funny thing is these are the types of people Jesus hung with

      1. Yes, it is, Buddha, but as This World stated on the last thread…gay is one thing, blasphemy is another.

Discussing gender identity in school, especially grade school is ridiculous. Drag performers in any school is unnecessary. 30-40 years ago, did any parents feel the need to come into schools and discuss their sexuality? No. That’s not why children are there.

More than one far Left politician, teacher, education administrator has said in the past few years that “these are our kids”. No, they are not. It’s great that you’ve chosen a profession that helps to prepare young minds for the future and the ability to provide for themselves. But they are NOT your children. Quit trying to claim your concern is caring for them, when it’s really about indoctrination.

    2. Catholics aren’t fundamentalists.

Nobody was knocking the gays. Just the act of honoring the sisters of perpetual indulgences who openly mock nuns and the catholic mass and go by names such as sister homofellatio and sister rectumresurection. Do you honor such people?

Jesus was a devout Jew. Never read anything in the bible about him hanging out with gay transvestities who replicate and mock the Jewish religious services. Of course, back then such blasphemy would be a capital offense.

      1. Exactly, Plow Horse! This isn’t a gay thing. It’s the fact that young children do not need to have this stuff shoved down their throats. They will eventually be exposed to it, the way we all were and will be more prepared in their later years to deal with it, emotionally.

I’ve mentioned my love for performing arts. The Gay Men’s Chorus of LA puts on great shows! Sometimes, a number includes men in drag. But I’ve never seen kids at their shows. (Haven’t attended a show of theirs for several years; This may have changed. I hope not.)

What consenting adults do is up to them. I am no one to say their sins are greater than mine. But involving kids in subjects that should remain private, or discussed at home? NO.

And the blasphemy committed by the “Sisters”? Hell no!!

    1. And I believe even God does not judge, George, our God possesses a love we humans don’t understand because it is all inclusive.

And I feel for the females, especially American teens, when they are constantly bombarded with what a girl should look like to be considered attractive. Pretty girls are rare and yet society demands that they be pretty.

      3. I can’t comprehend this post. The females? REALLY? This is truly odd. It’s not about judgement, but what’s appropriate in public discourse. The majority of Dodger fans don’t know about this group but I’m pretty sure they’re going to hear about it from the season ticket holders.

Wolf, why are you so lazy? The B1G Network owns the rights to the games in all sports. Guess who owns a majority stake in that network? Fox! Warren double crossed the conference biggest network partner! He’s lucky to get any money let alone a bonus!!

The bible states that if we see someone sin, then bring the sin to the person and let him know. If he does not recognize, then bring another person and let them know. if still they don’t turn from their sin, then you let them go.

      1. true…and Paul states ‘let your love abound in knowledge and judgment…that do not judge stuff is for covering up what God calls sins…all sin is 1st and foremost against God and He promises judgment on all sin;btw there is forgiveness for sins when one listens harkens to Jesus Christ, the messiah…there is more.

  3. How do we go from silly TV deals to whether or not it’s a sin to sleep with someone of the same sex? Pride is a sin, sodomy is a sin, obesity is a sin being drunk is a sin. However, all sins are between God and the sinner, not for people to judge. Jesus did not die on the cross to end sins he died because we cannot stop sinning. The sisters are clowns in clown makeup doing clownish things. Why they are proud or should be exalted escapes me, but the Bible predicts this behavior, so it has to be part of the plan.
Now to the TV deal. It is easier and even cheaper to receive Amazon prime TV than get the PAC 12 channel. Streaming is becoming more popular, we have cable to get the internet and the big screen TV isn’t connected to any one service. One TV in our home has basic cable because it’s part of our rent, but we watch most of our shows via streaming on things Paramount plus (CBS) Peacock (NBC) ESPN (ABC) Fox streaming and Hulu for most independent channels. If I want PAC 12, I log in to my sister’s subscription and aircast it from my phone to the TV. (Sorry George it’s the newfangled whippersnaper thing) Finally USC has an app, which broadcasts their games live. I can still see it religiously.

    1. If the Dodgers had merely had their Pride Event, I doubt it would have been mentioned here. It was the honoring the sisters that ruffled feathers.

Onward & upward…streaming is out of control. Our Dish subscription and Netflix. That’s enough. I’ve heard way too many stories of people cutting the cord, then getting so many streaming services it puts their monthly bill right back where it was with cable. So I’ll pass (for now).

I’m going to be disappointed when our games are on Peacock. Hopefully, we can use the USC app for those games.

    2. Streaming sucks, period. It’s wonky, a pain in the ass to go from one service to another, but it is what it is, as they say. I’m down to one pro sport to watch, college football is a one month deal for me, college hoops is a bore, NBA, MLB and NFL are not on my list of to watch anymore, so it can all go streaming for all I care, I won’t be paying 6 different services to watch any of it.

Now the use of certain words can get you fired like the 20-year baseball announcer in Oakland who used the ‘N’ word and was consequently canned

      1. Yep, Kuiper messed up and he’s out, but blacks can call themselves the N word all day, rappers say it 469 times in one of their ” songs ” and it’s fine, my kid was in the Navy and he’d hear them say ” What’s up my N***er ” all day every day.

I heard what he said. However, I thought he might have added the “ly” to the n word that he had said. If he had said ni****ly, that means cheap or not wanting to spend money.

For some channels’ apps, you’ll need to log on with your Dish account, but not all of them. If I was able to do it with ease, anyone can. One of the best gifts I’ve ever received!

    2. I’ve had Directv since 1996. I have a 12 month $50 dollar discount which keeps the bill at $118, which is ridiculous, I don’t have any movie channel add ons, that’s just programming and the fucking DVR rental and all the other add on fee’ bullshit. Every year my bill goes up $8 or $9 bucks for the same shit. I HATE streaming but paying that amount for channels I mostly don’t watch isn’t going to last. Tried DISH but didn’t like it.

      1. I’ve had DirecTV for over 20 yrs. I’ve had the platinum package the whole time and yes, have spent way too much money. But, I love the ease of use and want instant gratification. My wife wants me to switch to mostly streaming to save a few bucks, etc.
Apathy, fear of change, set in my ways…all of the above for me.

      2. $8 or $9 increase a year is NOTHING compared to what Spectrum was doing to me, karma — they couldn’t [or wouldn’t] explain why the bill was increasing either. And their “technical assistance”? Nonexistent. If America didn’t have such a do-nothing congress they’d be in front of some subcommittee trying to justify all the jack ups on their billing when they promise [and advertise] they won’t raise rates annually.

  7. Well anyone who uses words like that are probably low class and beyond consideration. If the A’s announcer apologizes and asks for forgiveness then all will be forgiven. Consider him cancelled but only for a season. And that’s what’s missing from the Perpetual Sisters of Silliness. Actions speak louder than words or good deeds, which these folks have done for many a year. All of that becomes overshadowed by the affront to many a Christian (let alone Catholics) who do not condone being insulted by such behavior. Free speech is protected in this county but not moral hazard.
