Sunday Buzz: USC Keeps Consultants Happy

USC loves to hire professional consultants.

There was Korn Ferry, which was used when Steve Sarkisian was hired as football coach. Max Nikias hired Brill Neumann to hire an athletic director, although he just went with Lynn Swann on the recommendation of booster Wayne Hughes. Carol Folt used Turnkey ZRG to hire Coach Bohn.

Now we have another player: Huron Consulting Group, which is based in Chicago.

Former Cal athletic director Sandy Barbour (pictured) is a strategic advisor for Huron. Mitch Moser works for Huron. They are 2 of the 3 members of the USC interim leadership team.

It helps to have a Duke connection with Huron. Moser worked at Duke for more than 25 years. Former Duke athletic director Kevin White also works for Huron.

Why so many Duke employees? Huron managing director Tim Walsh worked more than 10 years at Duke.

      1. Still can’t stand Weis. He had the guys stop mowing the field so the grass was 5 inches long to slow down Reggie. Desmond Reed’s cleats get stuck in the turf on a return and he tears his ACL. If the NCAA wasn’t so incompetent, they would require some standards on the manageable conditions of the playing field. Maybe they do now.

    Kevin Weiberg was an AD and now seems content to be a ball sack hanger for what I’m sure is a large paycheck and ” consult ”

    This is what WOKE Carol chose to lead USC during their AD ” search “, can’t wait for the final pick but I’m sure that person will check off many boxes

      1. That our choices for A.D. are about as bad as our (real) 2024 choices for President.

        It’ll be Biden or Newsom and Trump or DeSantis.

        Kennedy Jr, Gabbard, Haley or Scott would be great choices. But none have a snowball’s chance in hell.

  9. You have to consider the sources for all the complaints against Bohn. In the extreme woke environment of academia a smile can be considered aggressive, and the old pat on the back a flat out sexual assault. The USC leadership leads the crowd in the woke department. I am sure Folt will hire a gay trans black individual who donates only to the left, shops only at Target, and drinks Bud Light.

  19. All I really care about is whether the AD hire will make Riley leave. If it does, then Folt will have put the nail in the coffin. If he stays, I think he builds a an incredible dynasty over the next 5 years.

  20. Current AD’s Pat Chun and Pitt’s Heather Lyke both were previously in the athletic department at Ohio State for 15 years. Start with them. Someone mentioned that their UCLA friends were not fans of Martin Jarmond which is good enough for me to disqualify him.

    1. Bruce Feldman describes Lyke as an excellent fundraiser. He doesn’t say that about Chun, but consider that he’s at Wazzu. Chun hired Lane Kiffin at FAU … contrast him with Haden Shiva the Destroyer vs Chun Cristo Redentor.
