San Diego State informed the Mountain West Conference right before last week’s deadline it would not give a one-year notice of depature and would remain the conference.
In its first letter on June 13, San Diego State said it “intended to resign.” The Mountain West took that as formally leaving the conference.
Now there is a $6.6 million distribution share for the 2022-23 academic year the Mountain West is withholding to defray San Diego State’s exit fee, pending reinstatement by the board.
It looks like the lawyers will have to settle this mess. It’s amazing San Diego State started this procedure and either didn’t know how the Mountain West would handle the news, or didn’t realize how slow the Pac-12 is to act on its media-rights deal.

I wonder how much leverage Kliavkoff has. He was totally blindsided by the departure of both USC & Ucla. It would seem ESPN et. al. are the ones doing the dragging. They’re in no rush esp. the uncertainty of: UT, CO, OR, WA, AZ St. & AZ future in the Pac-? Outside parties hold thd Pac-? in complete control….truly sad witnessing the end of a once great conference.

The PAC WAC NAC (Not A Conference) Just deband right now because every university will vote to terminate their affillation . GK will have no conference to be Commish. Their media rights deal will Garner around $ 17-21 per school if Oregon n Washington stays. Maybe they need to negotiate a deal based on a series of one year contracts and the value either decreases based on when Oregon Wash Colorado Utah leave for the Big n Big 12 it’s coming real soon. What a way for the Conference Of Champions to just die in the wake of poor leadership and financial mismanagement.
