Some Decisions Being Made At USC

Coach Bohn might be gone but there are still decisions being made in the athletic dept.

USC hired Mark Hankins to be the men’s golf coach. Hankins has been co-head coach at Missouri the past two years and also was head coach at Nebraska and Iowa.

It looks like Paul Perrier, an Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director, made the hire.

And last month, the former men’s golf coach, J.T. Higgins, “resigned” after the men’s golf team finished a disappointing 10th at the Pac-12 Championships.

So that’s two decisions that were made. Getting rid of a coach and hiring a replacement. I wonder if USC consulted Sandy Barbour, who is an advisor, on this one.

Let’s be clear too: Bohn had a mixed record at USC with his hires for the non-revenue sports (i.e. swimming, women’s volleyball). He got lucky with baseball coach Andy Stankiewicz, who was at best the third choice. So Bohn’s abscene isn’t really that big a void here.

  1. Scott writes “abscene” meaning to say “absence,” but I am not going to
throw rocks in a glass house since I once struggled with this spelling
during the Bar Exam, and pondered it for the longest time before realizing I was using up valuable time

    1. Yep. When it comes to that fricking bar exam it’s always a matter of “raise the issue and move on!”…..
[I couldn’t help showing off a little by quoting some Harvard Law Review Articles —- I was hoping to be asked to be a bar grader —but it didn’t happen]….
      P. S.
When Golf Coach Higgins was called into the office over finishing 10th in the Pac 12 he said, “…it coulda been worse.”

      1. Dilfers says he might be the best ever to compete at the Elite 11. As USC fanatics, how could you not get an emotional shock reading the article? He’s on point and not embellishing. The Tesla analogy was brilliant

      2. That’s a very realistic assessment. If any complaints, I hope he steps out of bounds a little sooner. Perhaps he might have avoided the injury in the PAC12 title game!

      3. Yeah, that damn Utah game. I could see him thinking “Well, this TD should wrap up the Heisman!”
No worries, Caleb —they’ll give it to you without 65 yard rushing T.D.’s.

      4. “Houdini in the pocket”- passes for 4500 yds, 43 TDs to win this second Heisman as USC advances to the CFP!

      5. That may sound overly optimistic to Mister Owns …but… it’s actually extremely probable….

    1. Nice article. Aside from ‘Celeb’s’ on-field talents he also has class
off the field as evidenced by him taking his offensive line to Dodgers’ Stadium and letting them shine in the spotlight for a moment. And I bet those linemen would “go to war” with the guy

    1. It’s hard to believe that SC’s men’s golf team has won the same amount of national championships as the men’s basketball team. Let’s correct both of these oversights in the near future.

  3. Maybe I missed it but I did not see Duce Williams’ name on the first
600-players drafted. Must be a disappointment for him along with being perhaps a God-send for the Trojans

    1. As ‘Shotgun Spratling’ noted Andy Stankiewicz got a gift not burning a scholarship for next year’s roster and he maybe like that Alberto Rios from Stanford the LAA chosen in the 3rd round.

      1. It would be sweet if Duce becomes a piece of the pie that helps USC baseball get back to national relevance! Spring football practice would be the obvious overlap!

  4. Owns rebuttal:

I’m sticking with my 2023, Clown U, 8-4 record assessment.

If I were a bloated, arrogant Rah-Rah, I would want the “TEAM” to win a NC. Personally, I don’t think Clown U FB program has the horses to gain an invitation/compete in the 2023 CFP.

It’s also irrelevant whether CW, the bozo Glory Hog, wins a 2nd H/T. Quite frankly, I’m amazed CW will compete this year instead of concentrating on a NFL hyper-training program to prepare for the 2024, NFL Draft.

    CW’s future isn’t Clown U FB.

    1. Just owns your wrong about I see us losing one game. Do you really believe they are going to lose 4 games. That will only happen if he gets injured. Keep wishing owns. Everyone has an opinion.

      1. From a betting standpoint, all available future bets have USC as the favorite except on the road at Oregon as 2.5 point underdog. A neutral site or at home, USC would be a slight favorite. This is a fluid number that could look very different come game day.

  5. Like him or not, not hiring a replacement for Bohn is a mistake. It shows the lack of direction at the school when a money making department is a rudderless ship. An associate director made a hire, because why?
Where is Folt? Is she worried about toxic masculinity? I wonder if there’s a reason for dragging their feet such as employment issues with Bohn? Why would he go so quietly and quickly? Something is rotten at USC!
