Donna Heinel Released From Prison

Former USC administrator Donna Heinel was released from prison on July 5.

She was sentenced to six months in January for her role in the Varsity Blues scandal.

Heinel, 61, plead guilty to wire fraud in November, 2021. She alledgedly took $160,000 from Rick Singer, the ring leader of the scandal. Singer was sentenced to 3.5 years in January.

Heinel probably got off light considering she was the integral part of getting fake athletes into USC. But she’s also lost a lot, like her career.

    1. How do you guys feel about Van Houten’s release? Was 53 years enough rehabilitation/punishment or were the crimes so heinous that life in prison should be the only outcome?

I am on the fence about this. Would like to hear some thoughts about it, thanks

      1. “Let bygones be bygones?”– Not quite. All the killings were so heinous it scared L.A. for years. But there is probably nothing to be gained by keeping her behind bars any longer.

      2. Van Houten was sentenced to death in 1971 for the murders. Her sentence was later commuted to life in prison when the California Supreme Court overturned the state’s death penalty law in 1972.

    2. LJ and Michael,

I forgot she was from Altadena CA. I live in Pasadena and right across the street from me on the north side of the street is Altadena. I remember how vicious those murders were. She should have just made it a permanent residence for her in jail. This thought brought back memories of how bad it was. They could have done us a favor by just hanging her. I would have bought the rope. Oh wait, I have through my taxes.

Yeah, that stunt in Las Vegas was so stupid of him. But it sure as heck doesn’t disqualify him from being a Trojan!

  3. Heinel got far less than she deserved and yet she also was a fool in not only losing her career but her home in Belmont Shores she used for her attorney fees. I don’t know who convinced her she could beat a trial with what they had on her (probably herself) – as most saw it as ‘done’. Better to have gotten a ‘pro bono’ whatever and move for the same deal she got in the end. Have to say she got what she deserved – tried, convicted and never own a home again in CA.

William “Rick” Singer, the mastermind of the sprawling college admissions scam aptly known as Operation Varsity Blues, was sentenced in January 2023 to 3.5 years in federal prison and Georgetown tennis coach Gordon Ernst was sentenced to 2½ years in prison for helping to secure admissions to Georgetown University in exchange for bribes.

Why didn’t Lesbo Donna get the same sentence?

      2. The Obamas had absolutely nothing to do with the financing or production of the film you mention.

    1. CR,

Why do you say that? I think SC will turn their back on her and not have a thing to do with her. I hope that is the case. If she gets money from SC, then SC is corrupt very badly.
