Candidate Withdraws To Be Athletic Director

TCU athletic director Jeremiah Donati has withdrawn his name from consideration to be the next USC athletic director, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Donati’s stock is high because TCU went to the college football national championship game. He also has Southern California ties, working for agent Leigh Steinberg and going to Whittier Law School.

USC seems to be pursuing real athletic directors, like Donati, Pat Chun of Washington State and Heather Lyke at Pitt.

What it needs to make sure is it doesn’t hire another weirdo like Mike Bohn. I sensed it the first time I met him. The fake enthusiasm. The uncomfortable demeanor. And yes, the temper. I’ll bet a lot of people in the athletic dept. know exactly what I’m talking about.

The media (naturally) never addressed any of this until the pile on four years later.

USC needs to make sure they hire a real person and a competent athletic director.

    It seemed Bone was an introvert in an extroverted job, and try as he may he just was not cut out for this type of work

  3. Bohn is being treated unfairly. He made two great hires in Reilly and Stankewitz. The football hire will likely result in a fundamental shift in USC football and all that entails including hundreds of millions in increased revenues. Folt fired him and still has not provided a plausible reason for doing it. “The girls in the office didn’t like him, had a prickly personality, and once commented on someone’s clothing.” Now Scott jumps on the bandwagon with – “weirdo and fake enthusiasm.” Here is a better criteria. Did the guy do his job well, make the right decisions on a football and baseball coach. Yes he did. Folt will not be able to maintain a successful athletic program if she bases hiring and firing decision on something other than who is the person who can best perform the job.

      2. I have a little inside info. I know this soccer coach(Cyril) here in Vegas who privately trains Brent Browner’s daughter. Brent is the head football coach at Bishop Gorman. Brent told Cyril he received text messages from Zach’s dad, that basically said his son was toying with the secondary.

  11. I kind of go back and forth on Bohn. He wasnt perfect, but he brought in Lincoln Riley who is capable of going after a national championship one year after taking over a team decimated by the Helton years. That was the best coach he could have gotten (by a wide margin).

    He moved USC to the Big10. That move is debatable, but something had to be done. Possibly a better athletic director could have forced the Pac-12 to give us what we deserve, yet preserve the conference. Or maybe moving to the Big10 was the only real move.
