Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark is a guest this week on the John Ourand-Andrew Marchand podcast. It doesn’t come out until Wednesday.

But this preview concerns Yormark calling Kliavkoff after taking Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State.

A collegial conversation? “George was fantastic.”

The Pac-12 needed a wartime consigliere. Instead it got a collegial guy who banked $3.5 million for a few years’ work and oversaw the demise of the Conference of Champions.

We can all agree the Pac-12 presidents screwed this up. But was the commissioner doing all he could to convince them they were delusional? I doubt it.

After the hurricane ravaged the island, the countless water bottles supplied by the federal government were stolen. Local leaders and their surrogates then sold those bottles for $3 or $4 each to desperate Puerto Ricans, amassing vast illicit wealth. The same thing has occurred for the electric grid and road, infrastructure and school rebuilding contracts. The island hasn’t recovered due to Trump’s negligence or alleged indifference—or worse, “racism” as claimed by the radical left; rather, it is because of local graft, incompetence and fraud.

Explain why the government in Puerto Rico isn’t allowed access to federal spending because it is a territory and therefore no US funds are allowed to be transferred to the P.R. government? Their funding has to be approved by a US territorial administration. Wanna repost that?

        “It’s not easy to watch what is going on,” Cora said. “I am disappointed, mad. Sometimes I wonder like, ‘Where are we going?’ I got my kids who I am not planning on moving from there, but you see what is going on and you’re like, ‘What is going to happen?’ At the same time, we’ve been through this before as a country. The only thing I can tell the people back home and the people who live in the states is to stay together.”

        The leaked messages came on the heels of a corruption scandal that led to indictments last week against two former Puerto Rican officials for steering more than $15 million of hurricane aid to unqualified cronies.

        Anger boiled over this weekend, with thousands of protesters marching on the governor’s mansion to demand Rossello’s resignation before police in riot gear fired tear gas and rubber bullets.

        “It’s kind of sad that I feel more worried now than when Maria went by because when Maria went by the only one that had control over it was God,” Cora said. “Now, it’s tough to understand that we’re in this situation when the people that put us in the situation was the people who were elected by our country. It’s embarrassing, too. I am a proud Puerto Rican. We’re going to be fine. It just sucks to watch and see what is going on.”

  6. Speaking of “financially taken care of,” I am reminded of Maui and how thousands of victims have not been financially taken care of and will become wards of the state.

    And as they uncover body after body, what is left of them, from burned out home structures I think of the unimaginable nightmare of how so many of them knew they were going to die, being burned to death, one of the worst types of death, while they waited for the ‘executioner’ to come through their door

It’s easy to argue about this or that but I’ve heard a story told by Dr. Miguel Solis, the headmaster of Maui Prep, of his family’s displacement and how one mother lost her 3 month baby and she hasn’t able to locate that child since. The tough guy acts and howling might be de riguer for this blog but the fires in Maui and overall trauma that some are experiencing is real. Act grateful, we can be next.
    George Kliavkoff might be nice man but he was a poor choice to run the conference. Who suffers besides the students? The people who work in the stadiums and arenas, vendors who rely on game days and sales to stay in business. Security folks who will lose these part time jobs due to a lack of revenue. Game officials, video camera operators and interns who could use these games for real life experience to get into the business. Kliviakoff didn’t comprehend how important his failure would be. $50 million per school AFTER losing the L A schools? Apologize to Kliviakoff Mr. Yormark? What is wrong with people? No shame, it seems.

    1. Kliviakoff is neither the man to rebuild the conference nor the man to help the four orphaned schools. He has exhibited just about zero leadership ability this last year. His interest is in himself.

      I’m curious, just what has he accomplished to warrant that salary? Was he a part of the organized takedown of the conference?

      Has anyone looked into his hiring of his law school roommate as a ‘consultant’? The guy who had zero experience in the field he was allegedly being asked to ‘consult’.

      I’m sure glad GK is ‘loyal’ as he calls himself. What exactly is his job description now? Might be time to abolish the commissioners office and deliver pink slips. Just like it’s time to send the two grade school boys down the river for the political immaturity they exhibit before this blog morphs into less than ten posters.
