Carol Folt said at the press conference that Jen Cohen will start working at Heritage Hall tomorrow.
This press conference was bloated by even USC standards. There were five speakers besides Cohen. All totally unnecessary.
As usual, Folt had to use a teleprompter. Cohen did not.
Cohen said she was born in Arcadia.
“We’re going to work tirelessly to achieve the moonshot goals,” she said. “We can win a national championship in all 21 of our sports.”
Cohen said the job was the “responsibility of a lifetime. I will lead with integrity, character and with heart.”
She also promised to embarrass people with her antics on the sideline at games.
“I will lead with a passion in a way that will be embarrassing at times on the sidelines,” she said. “I get a little fired up during games and all competitions.”
“One candidate stood above the rest,” Folt said.
Suzanne Nora Johnson, chair of the Board of Trustees said USC wanted someone with “a track record at a Power 5 school.”
That eliminated Brandon Sosna.
This picture above of Cohen and Folt will infuriate Washington fans.
NOTE: The press conference livestream broke down the Q & A at the end.
They all seem to have nice teeth.
Should be a good ad for the dent school

One has to wonder about the mental state of sports commentator who makes their whole approach about criticizing and judging the motive of others. I would think that this person would be very insecure at the minimum.

Scooter,
Will she fall on the sword like Marv Goux did or Mike Garrett did for SC? I bet you a dollar to a donut that she does not even know who Marv Goux is let alone Mke Garrett. I bet you she doesn’t. It is just another nice and safe hire by SC. She did not win me over.

Values and victories are equally important to Athletic Director Jen Cohen
She started working at the UW athletic department in 1998 and was promoted to athletic director in 2016. We quizzed her about her job.
INTERVIEW BY JIM CAPLE | PHOTO COURTESY OF UW ATHLETICS
LikeLiked by 1 person
Why does she need to know the history of USC to get the job? Is there a test at the end of the interview? She comes in with a good record, a competent brain, a pretty face, and a mature hard working attitude. Just like everyone else, they will learn what the history is, who the people are, and what is important to USC. Give her a break PT

Except for the pretty face part, I agree. The decision is made; Let’s see how it plays out.

Fall on her sword? She learned from Babs Hedges:
“She follows in the ever distant footsteps of Barbara Hedges, a former USC athletic director turned Husky leader (1991-2003), who James and others felt sold out the football program during its 1993 conference investigation.
Athletic directors are supposed to be like good trial lawyers. In this case, Hedges let her client down.
She provided no cross examination, no objections, no pushback against a league determined to make an example out of the UW football program for a bunch of minor violations in the shadow of a national championship run.
James, who died in 2013, maintained that probation, scholarship losses and his resignation never would happened had Mike Lude remained as the Husky A.D. during the sudden upheaval.
Lude, of course, was pushed out in a 1991 power play following a victorious Rose Bowl season by UW president William Gerberding, who felt Lude and James both wielded far too much power and he wanted a more subservient person to answer to him. Hedges fit that role.
She never was going to find widespread acceptance among the UW fan base, especially after coming from USC and hiring former UCLA quarterback Rick Neuheisel as her football coach. The L.A. schools were supposed to be arch enemies, not cohorts, in Seattle.
Hedges left the UW without opposition.”

I don’t get the moaning over how a press conference is setup and run. It’s not like she was asked to be at the Salute to Troy or anything.

She has some good qualities–
Can think of her feet
Very enthusiastic about sports
Probably smart
Experience
But what bothers me about sports transfers is how she was undoubtedly a Washington Huskie rah-rah up until a couple of days ago;
how do you let go of that type of allegiance so readily

“It wasn’t an easy road back to Montlake. After being waitlisted at the UW, Cohen attended San Diego State.
“It was a grind,” she said. “You know, I feel like my entire life I’ve always been kind of average. You know I was an average student, I was an average athlete, nothing ever came easy to me and I’m so grateful for that because I think that really prepared me for my career development as well.”
Aren’t you excited, Michael? We got an average person promoted through Affirmative Action because she is a woman ! What could go wrong?

I don’t naturally care for Folt but I’d say she ‘sensed’ something amiss about Meyer and his short-lived stint with Jacksonville confirmed it. Too many schools (College – Bowling Green, UT, FL, OH St. NFL/JAC) regardless of record and wreckage left in his wake.

Thanks LJ and others for not being too harsh with me regarding my enthusiasm at my son’s sporting events. (My wife tended not to enjoyed my enthusiasm.) At times I violated the little league parent pledge by questioning a few calls. Much to my surprise, as of a year ago, they still require parents and players to recite the pledge before Allstar games at the Santa Anita little league. Here it is.
The Little League Parent and Volunteer Pledge:
I will teach all children to play fair and do their best
I will positively support all managers, coaches and players
I will respect the decisions of the umpires
I will praise a good effort despite the outcome of the game
The Little League Player Pledge:
I trust in God
I love my country
And will respect its laws
I will play fair
And strive to win
But win or lose
I will always do my best
