USC Morning Buzz: Time For Another Reality Check

If you want a taste of the reality, or lack thereof, that can exist at USC, here is an example.

A survey of USC students showed that 75 percent opposed the security gates/checkpoints that have been up for nearly a year. A survey of 345 faculty members found 75 percent wanted the checkpoints removed and found them unwelcoming.

“I haven’t had many students come up and say they’re specifically not happy about the gates,” USC president Carol Folt said Tuesday in an interview with student media.

First of all, how many students ever get the chance to tell her anything when her staff carefully manages every move she makes?

It also bothers students and faculty that fences were erected around Alumni Park, which sits in the middle of campus near Tommy Trojan. Folt was asked Tuesday if those gates will be permanent?

“I really don’t know,” she said. “I think right now it has still been our decision that it actually is serving a purpose.”

What purpose?

“It has felt that it has given us a different level of security,” she said.

So she thinks the park needs an extra layer of protection even with unprecedented security checkpoints to get on to the campus?

The atmosphere with the gates/checkpoints and the fences around Alumni Park is horrible. It doesn’t feel at all like a college campus. Hopefully, interim president Beong-Soo Kim removes them when he takes over in July.

  • When Folt officially steps down at the end of June, she will become a member of the faculty with an office at the newly constructed Ginsburg Hall, which is close to the football building currently under construction.

It’s a recent tradition for former presidents to get an office on campus. Max Nikias has had an office at the Tutor Center although I haven’t heard much about him actually being there.

  • USC opens play in the Big Ten Tournament on Friday against the winner of the Indiana-Oregon game. And fans will actually be able to watch the game on the Big Ten Network.

  1. KAM: I handed over a taxpayer-funded government check for $7 billion to Climate United Fund in April 2024.

DON: Climate United Fund, a non-profit organization, had only been incorporated in Delaware since November 30, 2023, just five months earlier. It received the biggest nonprofit grant in history — after submitting a 49 page report, or $140 million per page. That was all it took.

Cowardly Gabby aka TebowObama aka Charlie Bucket the UCLA Fan aka The Guy who posts as So Cal’s Wife & Michael Guarino & LawyerJohn & Pudly & Plow Horse & steveg49 & DOJ & Scott Wolf and Frank Young and KATHY and Foreskin Thoughts can’t resist this blog. She is obsessed and has wasted 2 decades of her life spamming here day and night.

The sad news is she is not alone in her insanity: The data shows that ideology, race and gender are all statistically significant predictors of self-reported mental health, with preachy liberals like Cowardly Gabby having the worst self-reported mental health compared to moderates and conservatives, and women having worse self-reported mental health than men.

What’s more, the interaction between race, ideology, and gender is statistically significant — with liberal white and non-white women having the worst self-reported mental health.

This trend has also been reported by Zach Goldberg and Haidt using Pew Research’s data, as well as findings from Gimbrone et al. Using FIRE’s 2024 Campus Free Speech Rankings data, we’ve seen that 36% of students reported feelings of poor mental health more than half the time. Out of these 15,000 students, 67% were liberal, compared to just 16% moderate and 17.3% conservative.

To put it simply, the more students were likely to believe in “social justice fundamentalism”, the more miserable they tended to be.

Poor Cowardly Gabby aka TebowObama aka Charlie Bucket the UCLA Fan aka The Guy who posts as So Cal’s Wife & Michael Guarino & LawyerJohn & Pudly & Plow Horse & steveg49 & DOJ & Scott Wolf and Frank Young and KATHY and Foreskin Thoughts is in denial of the polls this morning showing Trump’s speech was a smashing victory: CNN’s post-speech analysis made one thing clear — Americans loved Trump’s speech. And, predictably, CNN hated that.

Despite a strong majority of viewers reacting positively, the network’s talking heads bent over backward to downplay the numbers.

Jake Tapper set the tone early, bringing in CNN’s political director, David Chalian, to discuss the results. “David, how did the voters that you snap-polled feel about the speech?” Tapper asked.

“Forty-four percent of speech watchers in our instant poll tonight say they had a very positive reaction to Trump’s speech, 25% somewhat positive, 31% negative.” That meant that a full 69% of viewers had a positive reaction. Cowardly Gabby is caught in another lie!

  3. KAM: Democrats File Articles Of Impeachment Against Little Black Boy With Cancer!

DON: I deputized the young boy and made him an honorary Secret Service agent. Democrats say this type of obvious grab at power won’t be tolerated.

“We must resist,” Nancy Pelosi said in an interview on CNN. “No one elected D.J. Daniels! Trump simply appointed him to be part of the Secret Service, despite him being only thirteen and totally unqualified. I have instructed members of my party to immediately file articles of impeachment against that little cancer kid.”
