What do Wesley Yates, Desmond Claude, Josh Cohen, Saint Thomas and most of the rest of the USC basketball team have in common with Lincoln Riley?
They are not Trojans.
Traditionally, a Trojan would be someone who attended USC or developed an emotional bond with the university through their work with USC. Pete Carroll and Art Bartner fit into the latter category.
But in this era of transfer portal, one-and-done, merely attending USC is not what it used to be. The mercenaries who came-and-went en masse for basketball demonstrate that.
Does two semesters make you a Trojan? How about Jordan Addison who basically attended USC for a semester?
Is Lincoln Riley a Trojan? Hell no. He doesn’t interact with Trojans, avoids them at all costs and shows no respect for tradition. Remember, he told a staffer that he didn’t want former players at recruiting events and especially didn’t want talk about the Pete Carroll Era.
More examples: Henry Bibby is not a Trojan. The fact Bibby went to UCLA has nothing to do with it. Dave Levy is a Trojan and played football at UCLA. Levy is a revered figure at USC who was beloved by his players. Bibby collected a paycheck. So did Andy Enfield. See the difference?

You are dead right to what you wrote. The players and coaches that you had mentioned that were not Trojans, just came for the paycheck and something to put on their resume. However, I can see Bibby being a Trojan and how you said he was not. He did not have the Galen Center and the talent was okay. He did get them to the final four. However, he just seemed off kilter. Riley can leave right now. Bowden, for being here just a short while is becoming a Trojan. There was a ugly player that became a coach and he coached at SC and ugly and came back to SC. he coached back in the 70’s. I think his name was Anderson. I always thought he was a Trojan.

PT: Maybe Foster Anderson. He went from an assistant at USC to the head coach at Cal State Los Angeles. My brother played for him. They had very good offensive football teams from about 1974 to 1976 led by Rick Holoubek, an all city player who set some passing records at Wilson and then PCC.
