An Embarrassing Result At Dual Meet

USC is ranked No. 1 in the nation in men’s track and No. 2 nationally in women’s track but it didn’t matter today as UCLA swept the Trojans in the annual dual meet.

UCLA won the men’s meet, 82-81, and the women’s meet, 92-71. It was the first time USC was swept by UCLA since 2013.

Now I fully understand USC has a sprinter-heavy program that doesn’t necessarily translate to a dual-meet format, where it’s better to field athletes in more events.

But when you are ranked in the top 2 in the nation, shouldn’t you be able to beat your arch-rival? This should not have happened.

USC supposedly took a conservative approach to the meet, not going all-out with the Big Ten championships in a couple weeks. But here’s the deal: The average USC fan cares a lot more about winning the dual meet than the Big Ten meet.

UCLA, on the other hand, had a nothing-to-lose approach, knowing it would be a non-factor in the Big Ten and national championship meets. It is unranked in the men’s Top 25 and ranked No. 21 in the women’s poll.

Now if USC can win an NCAA outdoor title next month, it won’t matter too much. But in the meantime, getting swept in the Crosstown Rivalry is embarrassing.

Also: USC’s twitter account has not put up the scores of the meet more than three hours after it concluded. Do they only post results when they win?

  • USC baseball defeated UCLA, 11-5, today and took 2 of 3 games from the Bruins this weekend.

    1. Track is an utter embarrassment tonight but our baseball team is the surprise of the Big Ten 2 games out of first place! D They get a weak Sparty Nation team this week but don’t let down vs Washington next week.

D1 Baseball has USC as a No. 3 seed in its NCAA regional. The Trojans are placed with No. 2 seed Arizona, No. 4 seed San Diego, and No. 1 seed UC Irvine, which is projected to host the regional as the top seed. UC Irvine is projected to be the No. 8 national seed. The top 16 national seeds host each of the 16 NCAA regionals on the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

      1. Michael,

I drove 124 miles round trip on Sunday to see SC blow out the ruins of ugly. It was a tough 1st inning for SC though. The starting pitcher walked a couple of guys and the ss made an error that would have gotten them out of the inning. A batter for ugly hit a 3 run shot. Finally with 2 out, Stanwisk brought in a reiliever, in the 1st inning. Finally SC bats got hot and hit 4 homers and drove in 11 runs. SC needs to win the rest of the games to have 40 wins. If that happens, SC should get a better seed.

  1. KAM: Trump says he is directing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the notorious former prison on a hard-to-reach California island that has been closed for more than 60 years.

DON: For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering. When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm. That’s the way it’s supposed to be.

That is why, today, I am directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt ALCATRAZ, to house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders. “The reopening of ALCATRAZ will serve as a symbol of Law, Order, and JUSTICE.”

And a jail that criminals will really not want to escape from!

  2. KAM: President Donald Trump is taking another whack at defunding the National Endowment for the Arts.

“President Trump, as part of his agenda to reduce wasteful government spending, is setting his sights on the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. That’s all to the good, as there’s no constitutional justification for either, and they should be defunded completely.”

DON: This would be a cherry on the top of the long overdue DOGE reckoning on government waste and mismanagement.

Cancel this bureaucratic manipulation which, despite what many claim, tends to line the pockets of already well-funded institutions. Based on the crisis of relevance the arts are undergoing, the resources have been poorly used.

  3. KAM: Despite what Cowardly Gabby and the Fake News say, people are not regretting voting for Donald Trump. And then to watch the CNN pollster say, ‘Yeah, if the election were held today, Trump would still wipe the floor with Kamala Harris,’ or probably any other Democrat, for that matter.” Why are they doing that? Are they trying to divide Trump with congressional Republicans and senators to stymie his agenda?

DON: The Democrats, Fake News and Cowardly Gabby realize that Washington is full of political animals. And if they can convince the people in Congress that Trump is somehow becoming more toxic, then they can damage his reform agenda and save their grifting.

    1. Gabby — For once you’re wrong. The media and dem crazies are not trying to block Trump’s agenda. They only have about 20% of the American voting public on their side. They’ve given up on winning anything via the democratic process. The game plan now is to trigger violent overthrow of the government —listen carefully. 100% of the media noise is focused on “taking to the streets” and “mass protests in every city.”

  4. KAM:In 2019, students at Ascend’s 15 charter schools — nearly all of them living in poverty — were “reading Shakespeare in the middle grades, studying the Dutch masters, and outperforming city and statewide averages on standardized tests,” writes Ginia Bellafante in the New York Times. Then, founder Steven F. Wilson came out for high expectations in a an essay titled The Promise of Intellectual Joy, and was fired for “white supremacist rhetoric.”

Wilson is back in the fray with a book titled The Lost Decade: Returning to the Fight for Better Schools in America. He tells Bellafante that anti-racist education failed students. At one school that went anti-racist, “the percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards on the math section of the SAT plummeted from 41 percent in 2017 to 4 percent in 2024,” he says.

Anti-racist programming failed, says Wilson, because “indoctrination is boring.”

DON: It also isn’t educating — and isn’t meant to be.

  6. KAM: 60 Minutes did it again! Another highly biased, partisan segment, this time with liberal activist/lawyer Marc Elias, who they manage to paint as a victim. They whitewash his instrumental role in the Russia Collusion Hoax, noting he promoted “at least one allegation… by the Clinton campaign” as general counsel but failing to mention that he bankrolled the infamous Steele Dossier.

DON: Is that the same Marc Elias that guaranteed Kamala Harris was going to win?

  7. KAM: Well, well, well, there it is. Just when we think the fake news, lamestream media can’t get any lower, they once again prove us wrong. CNN is doing propaganda for the cartels, asking them how they feel about the way Trump is treating them… Ok, to be fair, we expect this sort of garbage from MSNBC because after all, they kept Joy Reid around for years even after they knew she was a racist, hateful bigot. And while we know CNN is pretty bad, we’ve always sort of seen them as a bit saner than MSNBC, which of course, isn’t saying much.

But this? CNN just gave MSNBC a run for their ‘hot mess of putrid media’ money.

DON: Imagine hating me so much you feel sorry for the drug cartels being called ‘terrorists’. Well I can imagine it- that’s Cowardly Gabby.
