USC has added three new members to the Board of Trustees: Bret Johnsen, Wil Smith and Glenn Sonnenberg.
One possible positive from all this: Smith, who owns a commercial real estate company, is a big USC football fan. Maybe he can become an advocate for saving the USC-Notre Dame rivalry.
He donated $10 million to the public policy school in 2020 and has supported athletics.
If USC is going to save itself, it needs people with Smith’s sports knowledge to step forward and use their influence.
Here’s some background on three new trustees. All three appears to USC sports fans, for what it’s worth.
Scooter,
The only way these three guys help determine if SC plays nd is they all cough up $10 mil a piece and make a donation.

A friend applied to be a board member of Hoag Hospital. He had 35 years experience in high level finance and commercial real estate. Wanted to help Hoag because they treated his daughter for cancer. The first question from Hoag was how much money are you prepared to donate to the hospital. These three men appear to be well qualified but is the primary requirement your willingness to donate money to the university? If so, that is problematic. We need people who can reign in these administrative incompetents and socialist professors like Folt and Austin. People who want SC to be a “globalist” university. Caruso has been disappointing in that regard.

Caruso is FAR from perfect….but he’s got skills & the ability to get things done….and that puts him in a different universe than Newsom, Pelosi, Schiff and Bass…..

The problem lies with the unionization of government workers. This is a huge voting block. They contributed to Bass, pledged their votes and she immediately gave them a 30% raise. This is a clear conflict of interest. “I will decide whether my boss will keep her job and she will decide whether I get a huge raise and pension.”

…the influx of mail-in ballots after election day had quite a bit to do with it as well…

One says he’s an American after being a family man first and one is a Jew.
How did those 2 get on the BOT ?

Don’t fully understand your comment Buddha. These guys sound like tremendous people. One has hired and mentored many Trojan students and alumni and contributed financially to the university. Your objection: He puts his family first! Really? Good for him. The other has also done great things for the university and the poor and disadvantage reaching out to mentor them. Your objection: He is a Jew! C’mon. Jesus, Joseph and Mary were Jews. Christians love the Jewish people. As Pope JP@ said, “they are our older family members.”

When I negotiate vendors down in price at the flea markets (esp. the one at the Rose Bowl), I just know I’ve got a little Jew in me.

Are colleges pro American or pro Jew theses days ?
Does that help ?

Colleges generally hate the Jews and favor Islam. They want to destroy Western Civilization, the roots of which come from the Jewish and Christian Biblical scriptures, scholars of the scriptures, and Greek philosophy. Western Philosophy values science and reason. Islam values submission and the sword.

Yea!
Great composer! The scores used in all three Sergio Leone gunfights [Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More and Once Upon A Time in the West] were perfect. …. and the love theme from Once Upon a Time in the West is incredible [it was played at Ennio’s funeral]……

What happens to fan interest if one of the upcoming SC-Notre Dame games is cancelled?–Rebellion at first, and then it becomes ‘yesterday’s news’
Actually, the game seems more impotant to ND than to SC. Maybe it’s because the Fighting Irish enjoy ganging up on the Trojans, like last year, and the year before that
Or maybe it’s because SC joining the ‘Big-10 gave the Trojans a Midwest presence that only Notre Dame had given them. Whereas ND needs SC’s ‘West’ presence

KAM: Notre Dame already has a West presence.
DON: Yep… the Leland Stanford Junior College Indians.

–And don’t believe that an SC-Ohio St game in ‘State’s stadium won’t be as big as SC at Notre Dame. I was there for the Barkley and Joe Show when the Trojans amazingly came back to beat the Buckeyes. The fans were standing the entire game and were yelling, partying and carrying on until the last minute

–All of which begs the question–What is Wiley thinking? Well, the guy wants to win a National Championship which means his team has to first make the Playoff field. 3-Losses and you’re probably out. He’d like to avoid the usual loss to ND (over the years) so he’d have one loss to play with

You make very solid points, John……but John McKay wouldn’t think of the situation in those terms….. neither would Pete Carroll……

Well MG, Carrot regularly beat up Notre Dame and after 1966 McKay did likewise, so they would not have wanted to end the ND series and their winning streaks

If USC can not get into a 16 team playoff without dropping the ND game then there is something seriously wrong with the program. I think Riley is waiting to see if the BIG gets three or four automatic bids. If it does, he will extend the ND series. Your non conference record doesn’t matter with automatic bids.
