USC had its alumni baseball game last weekend.
The stands at the new Dedeaux Field did not yet pass inspection, so the boosters who came for the alumni game had to sit down in the bullpen with the porta-potties away from everything.
Among those who showed up to festivities the night before were Lars Nootbar, Mark McGwire and Bret Boone.
- USC guard Chad Baker-Mazara is out for today’s gme at Ohio State.
- I’ve been looking for pictures from this game for a long time and finally found some, which I will write about in tomorrow’s history column.

Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Sandy Koufax and now Lars Nootbar. It will take some time to adjust to that name.

KAM: Lars batted .234 with 12 home runs and 48 RBIs for the Cards last season.
DON: The Cards need him to have a breakout season this year if they are going to challenge the Cubs and Brewers in the NL Central.

Any true Trojan baseball fan would sit anywhere, even in the bullpen by the port o potties, to support our eleven time national champion baseball team. Just glad that they are back playing on their home field. My good friend Chuck who graduated in 1958 helped to start the first USC baseball booster club…Chuck passed away about 20 years ago, but I bet that he is still rooting for his Trojans. KAM: Bruce Thornton scored 21 points and hit two late throws to help Ohio State secure an 89-82 come from behind win over USC on Wednesday in Columbus.
DON: Freshman Phenom Alijah Arenas, who led SC with 25 points, hit a 3-pointer with 1:09 remaining to pull USC within 82-81, but Thornton responded with a driving layup and converted the free throw to make it 85-81. USC missed two shots in the final 30 seconds, and Thornton closed it out at the line. USC falls to 7-7 and 11th place in the Big 10.

Freshman Arenas is the real deal. Congrats to the coach for getting him ready for the NCAA tournament if we can win two more games without our other star player who is injured. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962
