Chad Baker-Mazara No Longer On USC Basketball Team

Chad Baker-Mazara is no longer a member of the USC basketball team, the school announced this afternoon.

Baker-Mazara said he was hurt and could no longer play during yesterday’s loss to Nebraska and then sat next to the bench in seats with fans.

This ending doesn’t surprise insiders in the college basketball world. I mentioned last June when Baker-Mazara transferred to USC that this would be a volatile situation.

“You put crazy and crazy together, and it might just work,” Baker-Mazara said about his relationship with Eric Musselman.

Or it might not. Baker-Mazara averaged 18.6 points per game but Musselman invested several million dollars of NIL into the guard, who is now no longer on the team.

Between Baker-Mazara and the injured Rodney Rice, USC wasted millions this season.

  1. Let’s leave this alone.

Mental illness is nothing to laugh about or be cynical with snarky commentary.

Let’s wish the kid a good long life who hopefully didn’t waste his NIL money.

    1. You do you. Everyone else can post what they like.

If someone comes to my alma mater and takes millions to play for us, they need to be prepared to take the good with the bad. I know you love to play the part of victim. Not all of us buy into that.

  3. What a gem Jen hired in Eric Musselman–a reporter asked him why Baker Mazara sat with fans rather than with the team when he was out of the game, and Musselman said there were no more seats left on the bench.

Musselman must go too hopefully at the end of this season. The fact that he allowed this more than once this season shows you he has lost the team. He does not belong in college basketball he should return to the NBA D-League with a bunch of players like Mazara who play street ball..

  4. Scott Wolf is correct USC wasted alot of money on transfer this year this is not how you build a basketball program. But the biggest waste of money blame fall on the Athletic Director for hiring a coach who has never won anything for 5 million bucks. Time to move on from Musselman ….the longer we wait the longer it will take to re-build the program.

  5. Michael you are 100% correct, and maybe the football program also.

Our current basketball coach is more mentally ill than the players. I have seen Baker Mazara on numerous occassions sit in the stands with fans rather than on the bench this season. The only reason Musselman kicked him off the team was because a reporter asked him in the post game press conference why he allowed that, and he stated “I am not really sure why he does that maybe there are no more seats on the bench”!

And while making that statement Musselman during the press conference had a look of a kid who stole some candy from the local retail store, and got caught. Obviously, Musselman is getting nervous he is going to lose his job now, and acting like a good cop now by throwing his players under the Muss Buss after running a very player friendly loose ship during the majority of the season.

Don’t be surprised if all the players transfer now, and the recruits go elsewhere. I am confident he will be gone now our AD had no clue hiring this guy in the first place especially for 5 million a year. Andy Enfield was John Wooden compared to Musselman he certainly built a nice program that Musselman is now ruining very quickly.

Who knows maybe Baker Mazara is sitting with the fans to apologize for how bad the team is, and got away with it until now because now the coach is throwing is the towel too..

      1. Well, technically speaking, UCLA football is burdened with more debt than USC’s basketball team [let’s say around a billion dollars more]…

        #There’sThat

Note: Earlier, I said several American Universities are in receivership for being run so poorly —it’s more accurate, legally speaking, to say they’ve lost federal funds and are now being monitored by federal officers….and some have simply gone out of business…

  6. To borrow a line from “The Graduate,” it turns out Baker-Mazura was only “half-baked.” Having gone through 5 schools during his ‘career’ might have been a sign of trouble ahead

But apparently SC basketball has plenty of NIL money to throw at their recruits. And then there is Muscleman who could not replicate his prior Arkansas success at SC

    1. …..”who could not replicate his earlier success” doesn’t begin to describe Eric’s situation…..

  7. How does USC hire such horrible coaches, they replaced a successful coach in Enfield with a looney used car sales man who is bad D league type and the less said about Riley destroying the FB program the better

  8. Scooter,

In no certain terms Jen Taco Lita needs to get rid of three people and they are:

    Riley

    Mussleman

    and herself .

This is not a clownshow, this is a cluster bomb. The only two good hires for now are Watts with track and field and the baseball coach
