Everything Has A USC Connection

Grant Gustavson, the grandson of USC mega-booster Wayne Hughes, is leading the primary group hoping to relocate the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer team to Las Vegas, according to Sportico.

Hughes, who founded Public Storage, gave USC around $400 million before he died in 2021 and was the biggest booster in the history of USC athletics.

According to Sportico, Gustavson’s mother, Tamara (the dauthter of Hughes), is worth $8.5 billion.

I’ve also heard Grant Gustavson, a USC graduate, is a major donor for USC basketball NIL.

  1. I am glad that USC has high net worth people who donate to the university. But if I was a billionaire, funding NIL would be way down my list. “Let’s see medical research for a cure for alzheimer’s or NIL for a new point guard.”

  2. A lot of real anger towards Lincoln Riley but here’s a query…..
How deep would USC have to go this year in the playoffs to deflect sacking…were Riley get USC to the title game – lose – still get’s fired? Just wonder, by fellow posters, what the level of achievement would have to be for him to keep his position?

    1. It wouldn’t be so bad except that we’re getting what we got rid of, at more than twice the cost.

I was never happy with his hire. I wanted someone who had turned a program around. He hadn’t. He merely kept a good thing going at OK.

BUT…I had been wrong about Pete and I held out hope I would be wrong about Lincoln. It would appear I wasn’t.

      1. Good reply – I understand per Pete Carroll. He quickly and suddenly left leaving a mess for someone else to clean up. I believe all know, esp. Riley, this is it 2026.
Helton was a very nice and a complete and total incompetent.

    2. USC has a tough schedule next year – Oregon, Ohio State, Indiana, Penn State, and Washington. I think we probably holds his job if he wins 9 games and is competitive in his losing games. If he loses by 2 or more touchdowns to Oregon, or Ohio State or Indiana he may lose his job even if he wins 10 games.

      1. It’s too bad we play Washington AFTER Oregon…we could be full of ourselves….
