It Pays Off To Do A Spring Game

Look at the crowd and the goodwill generated by UCLA today at its spring game at the Rose Bowl.

It is insane that Lincoln Riley would cede this to the Crosstown Rival. Every school should do a spring game for their fans. Never listen to the entitled coach just because he doesn’t want to do something.

USC fans would have loved a day like this.

        No. 1 Stanford vs. No. 3 UCLA12:30 p.m. ESPN

DON: The Indians are going for NCAA title #137, the most of any university. The second and third are UCLA with 118 and USC with 107 championships, respectively.

    2. Where are they getting the NIL $$?

Don’t they owe the university something like $150 million for backstopping their deficit?

  1. Chesney has the passion and a proven skill set Ucla has been lacking since….. Here’s hoping he has a winning season if only to keep playing at the Rose Bowl. Beautiful stadium.
Moving to SOFI would be a huge mistake. Low man on the totem pole – sole saving grace is playing Saturdays ‘before’ the NFL games but no identity there in a sterile cavernous pit.

  2. KAM: There is no joy in Beantown tonight….

DON: The Celtics choke a 3-1 series lead and lose to the 76ers, the Boston Bruins get crushed by Buff, the Pats coach is a lusty laughingstock and the cheating coach of the last place BoSox gets fired !

  3. DON: Last week you riled up the blog’s Believers by saying we should think of God as woman/man, so let’s talk ucla football. All of the ucla fans sat on the shady side and there are maybe 4000 bruins, who must be ucla-fanatics to attend a Spring game.

KAM: These days football teams playing ucla say, ‘It’s only ucla’

  4. DON: I don’t see SC’s Wiley being fired after the 2026 Season when even a 9-4 record might keep him afloat. But by 2027 he best be making Playoff appearances

KAM: Money aside, you wonder what Wiles’ mental state is with all this negative pressure barreling down on him

    1. KAM: How dare we exert “negative pressure” on the $110 million dollar coach as he sits looking at the Pacific Ocean from his $18 million mansion? Perhaps his manservant can ease the strain he is feeling by peeling the grapes for him so he doesn’t bruise a bicuspid?

DON: Just because Riley Coyote has been a failure for 4 years while Curt Cignetti won a NC in 2 years at previously woeful Indiana is no reason for us peasants to get upset.

    1. KAM: Attorneys say UCLA apology not enough after Federalist Society event disruption last month.

DON: An attorney with the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression described the university’s response as “unacceptable” and said the situation remains unresolved.

“UCLA Law students have not been given unequivocal assurance that UCLA will not punish them for identifying students who disrupted their event, and as a public institution bound by the First Amendment, UCLA’s response is unacceptable,” FIRE attorney Jessie Appleby said.

      1. UCLA and Cal and Stanford have run Marxist Law Centers since the 60’s [our law center is late to the revolutionary party —it didn’t get nutty until Carol came on the scene & started her journey down the “Road of Righteousness”]…..

      3. Gomez has virtually no meaningful legal experience and yet she is teaching civil procedure and criminal law to law students. How do you teach what you do not know. Has Gomez ever represented a client in a meaningful civil dispute. Prepared civil complaints and responded to them. Filed demurrers and motions for summary judgment. Taken depositions? Represented clients at trial? The answer is likely no. Same with criminal law. But she will talk your ear off if you want to know about racial inequity in the justice system. Unfortunately, that is not going to help these students develop the knowledge and skills they will need to practice law and otherwise earn a living.

  7. Did UGLA have any season ending injuries during their meaningless practice game? Chesney just wants to show the Bruin faithful that he is the head coach. There are plenty of good football recruits to go around to schools in the Big Ten. If Chesney can outcoach LR or Cignetti, more power to him. Isn’t Scott the writer who likes competition? Stanford, UGLA and USC are the schools with the most natties, But how many do Stanford and UGLA have in women’s gymnastics and softball, sports where USC does not field teams. Eliminate their natties in those sports and see how the schools rank when comparing apples to apples. Also, football championships are also counted in a school’s natty column as well as natties from organizations before women were allowed to compete in an NCAA tournament. Fighton, Dan, Class of 1962
