USC and UCLA have split the dual track meet. The Bruin men won, 87-76 while the Trojan women won, 93-69.
I said before the meet that the men’s portion was a toss up but it’s still a tough loss for USC coach Quincy Watts, who has lost the men’s meet to the Bruins two straight years to his former USC assistant, Joanna Hayes.
It also shows that USC will need to invest in events it refuses to like the pole vault and distances, otherwise it puts itself in a huge hole in the dual-meet format with its glut of sprinters.
- USC men’s volleyball put up a good fight but fell to Hawaii last night, 3-1, before more than 9,900 in Honolulu.
The USC/Hawaii volleyball contest is being called an instant classic —super close all the way…..
….and USC swept Rutgers in baseball.

Thanks MG. Glad that we got the broom out for Rutgers. I hope that we can find a third quality starter and a closer for the playoffs. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

KAM: When Carol Folt came up with the brilliant idea to have USC jump to the Big Ten she never considered the bitter cold and snows of the Midwest that last from October to April.
DON: The Big Ten is bad in baseball because they can’t even play in 32 degree weather until April and the season starts in February. USC, UCLA and Oregon are dominating the league. The only decent baseball and softball program from the Midwest is NEB. Thanks Carol!

Scott, good report. Our men should do better in the Big Ten and NCAA meets. We tend to do really well in the sprints, but not in distance running where other teams like UGLA, Oregon and Stanford tend to excel. Our women should start doing well in distance running because we can recruit women for cross country. We should have a men’s cross country team to so we can recruit 5000 meter runners like Max Truax who was an Olympic runner in the 5000. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

wolfman, i know you can’t cover everything, but for the benefit of the numerous Bruins who visit your blog, i am pleased to report the Bruin Women took the Beach Volleyball Natty today defeating the Evil Empire (Stanford) for the Natty!! Bruins also swept Michigan St at their house, but Wolfman i know you are tired of hearing about our winning streaks!

So this Gabby 2 guy, whoever he is, takes shots at ‘Sparrow’ constantly, with Sparrow countering with an occasional soft shot. And that is it, not much of a show

SC basketball is spending upwards of $10-million in salaries for its players. I guess it is ‘Playoffs or Bust” for Muscleman
Wiley might be a year away from having a very good team, those freshmen need seasoning, especially the offensive linemen

–That SC football lineup of Ohio St, Oregon, Indiana et al looks like too many 50-50 games. It’s not likely SC will win them all

Separate the home games [Oregon, Ohio State & Washington] from the away games [Penn State & Indiana] …we have a good chance to protect Coliseum home ground…. the away games are a different story….
