USC Finally Makes Change With Lacrosse Coach

USC and lacrosse coach Lindsey Munday are “parting ways” after 14 seasons. It was a bit overdue.

Munday has been the only lacrosse coach in USC history, hired in 2011 when the athletic dept. decided to start playing the sport. At the time, it was thought USC could quickly become a national power given the school’s location and prestige.

But Munday only took USC to the NCAA Tournament six times in 14 seasons.

“After thoughtful conversations, we mutually agreed this is the right time for new leadership and a new direction for USC Women’s Lacrosse,” Jen Cohen said.

Some of my friends suggested USC drop lacrosse but that would be a poor decision. It’s has minimal costs and helps keep USC’s Title IX numbers balanced, which is why it was added in the first place.

  • This may be Munday’s biggest contribution: When Heritage Hall was renovated in 2013, Munday suggested they put a statue of the USC drum major in the new lobby as officials tried to figure out what to put there. The statue remains there today.

  1. KAM: Replace lacrosse with women’s softball… tons of talent around Southern California to recruit from.

DON We can start punking the Bruin’s in their favorite sport.

  2. Scott, you keep lobbing softballs (pun intended). Yes, we have lacrosse but not just because of Title IX, but because it can be played on a soccer field. Where would you put a softball field on the USC campus. We have pretty good weight throws for track and field since a donor paid ofr the throws complex near the harbor. The bigger question is why no women’s gymnastics which could be practiced in the old gym building and performed at the Galen Center. Lacrosse is a fairly new sport in Southern California as opposed to its long history and tradition in the East and Midwest.. We need to use NIL to build up all sports at USC to be nationally competitive. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962
