Andy Stankiewicz Makes Big Rotation Change For USC At Regionals

Last weekend I floated the idea that USC save its ace, Mason Edwards, for the UCLA game at the Big Ten Tournament.

Well, today USC coach Andy Stankiewicz said he will start No. 2 pitcher Grant Govel tomorrow against Texas State and save Edwards for the big game Saturday against host Texas A&M.

Some might view its as a risk but if USC beats Texas State and Edwards can beat Texas A&M, it would put the Trojans in a commanding position in the regional. And Govel is good enough for Stankiewicz to feel comfortable using him in the opener, which is always a key game in the regional format.

  1. Scott, if Govel couldn’t beat Texas State, there is no way he would beat A and M. This was Coach Andy’s best move. USC needs one more quality starter and an outstanding closer to win the CWS. If Edwards and Govel stay with the program for at least one more year, we would have a great chance next year. Coach Andy is teh Coach Cignetti of baseball……especially if he uses NIL and the portal. 1. Using Adam Troy to close out the game after blowing the ucla

game in the Conf. Tournament was pure stupidity. The guy stinks

like the Coach. They can’t use Edwards vs. Lamar and have nobody

for game 3 to start if they get that far. Govel has been mediocre at

the last part of the season. One Quad 1 win the whole season

with 11 losses. Swept three times by good teams in the B10.

Mason going in the 1st round of the MLB draft.

  2. wolfman, great call! looks like Stankawitz is smart enough to read your blog and EMPLOY your directives, whereas Lil’ Lord Riley stubbornly ignores your sage wisdom! a common thread between Kiff, Sark and Riley: they all seen determined to ignore the expert who knows the school better than they ever will! i know Sneaky Pete used to follow your blog closely, although he dint always follow your advice he did pretty good regardless!

  3. DON: Yes, Scott Wolf has pulled off another, he was the first to tell the SC baseball Coach to put in No. 2 before No. 1

    1. Can you flesh the ‘big chance’ concept out a little bit? Sincerely. I’m not sure I’m following where you’re going on this one, John…
