Saturday Buzz: USC Season On Brink After Devastating Loss

What’s the saying about how insanity is “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

USC’s baseball season is one loss away from being over after a shocking 5-4 loss to Texas State on Friday night.

The Trojans led 4-3 going into the ninth after a home run in the eighth by Adrian Lopez.

So what happens in the ninth? An error, of course, to let a runner on base. One out later, Andy Stankiewicz inserted reliever Adam Troy, who immediately gave up a 2-run homer.

Last weekend, Troy gave up a 3-run homer to UCLA in the ninth inning of USC’s 7-5 loss to the Bruins.

Did we mention USC batters struck out 12 times?

So now USC ace Mason Edwards will take the mound today for an elimination game against Lamar. The game is at 1 p.m. and will be on ESPN+, which means few will watch it.

  1. wolfman, you know i am loathe to ever contradict you, but even old Chucker Bucker thinks you are being a bit tough on trOJie baseball! after all, the defense was stellar against the Bruins, it’s not like they have stunk it up on the field this season! i humbly predict both teams will fight their way back through the losers’ bracket!

one odd item: ESPN did not list the Trojan game in their NCAA schedule/scoreboard yesterday, and today it is absent again. very peculiar. all the other regionals appear to be listed! did somebody at SC piss off ESPN???

      1. Poor UCLA. Looks like it’s possible they’ll lose to Virginia Tech [score tied in 7th] —one of my in-laws is threatening suicide [but I think he’s kidding]….

      2. All true Trojans need to go to all UCLA sports sites right now [bruins down 5-3 in the 9th] and commend the brubabies for fighting like warriors —panicky little girl warriors …..

  2. KAM: USC Men’s Golf needs to put on their rally caps and come back to secure a spot in the Top 8 today at Las Costa.

DON: Right now we are 24th.

  3. In this David-versus-Goliath race, Guarino has raised less than $1,000, while Hahn has collected $192,000.

Sounds like Guarino running was a total joke. Looks like he got ran-out of LA.

Jello is still laughing his azzzz-offfff!

    1. Vote totals were a LOT closer than spending totals…

Jello is a good guy who was nice to my son —send good thoughts his way since he’s recovering from a stroke….

Internet trolls frequently exhibit a “Dark Tetrad” personality profile, combining narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and sadism to derive pleasure from causing distress. They are characterized by low empathy, high antagonism, and a tendency to use online anonymity for malicious provocation. Research shows they are often motivated by the amusement of causing pain, known as schadenfreude.

      Key Psychological Traits

      • The Dark Tetrad: Trolls often display high levels of four distinct antisocial traits:
        • Sadism: Enjoyment of inflicting pain or discomfort on others.
        • Psychopathy: Lack of remorse, empathy, or guilt, allowing them to engage in harmful behaviors without emotional consequence.
        • Machiavellianism: A manipulative, cold, and calculating nature.
        • Narcissism: An inflated sense of self-importance and entitlement.
      • Cognitive vs. Affective Empathy: Trolls often possess high cognitive empathy—meaning they understand exactly what will hurt or provoke a victim—but lack affective empathy, which is the ability to feel or care about the pain they cause.
      • Low Agreeableness: They are typically highly antagonistic, argumentative, and enjoy conflict, often manipulating others for amusement.

      Motivations and Behaviors

Master Manipulators: They view the internet as a playground for tearing down, provoking, and bullying users

Schadenfreude: A primary motivator is deriving joy from the misfortune or distress of others.

Trolling for Amusement: Research suggests trolls are not necessarily unhappy; they often feel good about themselves and enjoy the “game” of distressing others.

Digital Disinhibition: The anonymity of the internet lowers social barriers, allowing them to act without fear of real-world consequences.

      DON: Go away you pest!
