USC Names Pat Haden Honorary Trustee

Pat Haden has been named an honorary trustee to the USC board of trustees.

He was a member of the Board of Trustees before he became athletic director.

Among the current honorary trustees is Jeanie Buss.

What does an honorary trustee do? Who knows?

But I’m guessing they don’t come on campus too often because I don’t think Haden has visited since he resigned as athletic director.

  1. I’m glad Pat received this honorary position. He deserves to go out on a better note than the one on which he left.

    1. We all have done something we’d wish we hadn’t but frankly Haden would be better served declining this and moving on….that was a long long time (17 years per LA Times) he was in control of the George Mayr Foundation …..bad enough his sister-in-law and daughter being paid for doing ‘what?’ but he himself too.

If this hadn’t been uncovered nothing would have changed …he’d still be in control there….still collecting his renumeration for ‘annual minor expenses’.

  2. Ah, so “Small Hands” Haden must have paid back the $2.4 million he and his tribe looted from the Mayr charitable Foundation!! Bravo, Pat, it takes a big man to quietly make things right after he was so publicly busted stuffing his pockets with poor kids’ tuition money!! i know this must be the case because there’s no way wolfman would have not mentioned this in the story if Haden had not set things right!! right, wolfman??

    1. Hey ‘white bread’ (man aren’t you the epitome of the Pillsbury dough boy or what?) How much did ‘the peckerwood’ gain by his back room deals? Remember when he demanded CSULB heads ‘rein in’ Tarkanian? Or how he put on the ‘George C. Marshall’ look of ‘outrage’ when he was asked about Sam Gilbert? Best was Bartow ‘playing the man’ recognizing what a corrupt piece of filth Gilbert was but somehow ‘….you leave my Jonniekins alone…’ Wooden…never a word.

      1. Now THAT was predictable! But not surprising given trOJie apologists have excused OJ’s muderous crimes and Mr Reggie wrecking their vaunted football program!!

      2. Muderous crimes?

Those must have been horrible. Never heard about them. I also don’t believe I’ve ever heard anyone say anything about any muderous crimes committed by him.

  3. I have no problem naming a former prominent Trojan as an honorary trustee, but if you name someone with Pat Haden’s background, how about also naming Mike Garrett and Pete Carroll as honorary trustees as well. Mike stood up for us at the start of the Bush debacle and spoke the truth about the NCAA. He was willing to fight for our school but the President was too weak to fight. Pete brought us glory. And, we should have an honorary place on the trustees for John McKay, Howard Jones, John Robinson, Rod Dedeaux, Peter Daland, and all other coaches who brought us national championships. Thanks MG for reminding us that being petty is not being a true Trojan. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

  4. KAM: SC’s Pat Haden took a great fall because he wanted it all

DON: But in his defense, weak as it is, he was not convicted of a crime and how much is “reasonable compensation?”

KAM: Still, I will always treasure Haden’s 1974 team beating Ohio St in the Rose Bowl for the National title- That’s the way I like to view him

    1. KAM: Between his $2.4 million charity scam, Varsity Blues scandal where his defense was incompetence, promoting an unqualified crooked lesbo to Associate Athletic Director, wasting $270 million on the Coliseum remodel fiasco, running on the field during the Stanford game to argue with officials, Tarmacking Kiffin, hiring Drunk Sark without due diligence, firing Drunk Sark and then firing interim coach Ed Orgeron after he led USC to a 6-2 record and an upset win over #4 Stanford, hiring Hugs Helton and championing the LBGTQ+ cause as our AD, no one has done more to disgrace and damage USC.

DON: He should be inducted to the USC Hall of Shame!

KAM: Actor Jerry Seinfeld said it all with his expression of “Now I’ve seen it all”

  6. DON: The New York crowd was passionate all the way through, even when they were losing big.

KAM: Taylor Swift was dancing up a storm after being warned to be rooting for New York

  7. Why is the university honoring Pat Haden. He dishonored the university. Stole money from a charitable trust designed to give scholarships to students from impoverished families. Was possibly the worst AD ever. Fired Orgeron and Kiffin, hired incompetent personnel like Sark and Helton and allowed corruption to flourish under his watch. And was in “standby” mode when the NCAA attempted to destroy the football program. He accepted an unjust ruling without so much as a whimper in dissent. Penn State fought the NCAA sanctions and won. Pom pom Pat did nothing.

    1. Maybe they’re honoring his football career — you’ve made a good case against everything he did [or didn’t do] afterwards.

    2. MG: An honorary trustee recognition is not something that is given based on athletic performance. Typically, it is based on financial contributions to the university. A person such as George Lucas with his 175 million donation fits the bill. Good character is also a consideration. And you should never honor a person with this distinction who has defrauded a trust designed to provide scholarships to university students. Haden is the antithesis of a trustee. If he were appointed an actual trustee, you could make a good argument to a probate court that he should be removed based on his past record of fraud and mismanagement of financial assets.

      2. Sorry ‘Plow’ but aside from THX1138, American Graffiti and the 1st 3 Star War films – Lucas has produced nothing in over 50 years and even allowing one to pay recognition for the product in one’s youth (which is when most artists produce) – Lucas is an empty ‘PC’ clone and now that ‘on its’ side flashlight’ thing straddling Vermont btwn Expo and MLK is a telling final move by him….empty

      3. That’s a big “aside” Rusoviet and you left out the other 130 million reasons why he would be an acceptable honoree.

  8. Haden should not have been made AD in the first place; his employment with NBC as a commentator for ND football should have been disqualifying.

His caving in to the NCAA was inexcusable. At least one of the principals in the case had a well known hostility toward USC, and Haden should have vigorously fought to have that individual excluded from the proceedings.

And what he did to Coach O. was moronic. O loved USC and the kids who played for him, and made the team a winner. Haden thought O wasn’t a good fit, and then only two years later decides that Helton was?

  9. Scott has been given the biggest prize he could ever wish for during the dog days of summer —Pat Haden is back!

USC just gave Scott at least a dozen fun angles to take us to opening day kickoff.

    Thank you, USC!

  10. Haden does not deserve this honor.

The worst AD since before Mike Garrett. And that is saying something. Totally backed down from the NCAA when the sanctions hit (history shows a response challenging the NCAA would have been the better move). And hired Sark over Coach O. Rampant fraud with Varsity Blues scandal.
