USC Morning Buzz: A Rankings Shocker To Finish Season

Baseball America has released its final Top 25 poll and USC is ranked No. 11. UCLA is ranked No. 14.

Who would have imagined at any point during the season that USC would finish ranked higher than UCLA? It’s a shocking ranking for a UCLA team that was No. 1 all season, but fully deserved.

Now the question is can USC sustain it? USC baseball has 14 commitments for the Class of 2026, which is important because it doesn’t look like the Trojans will be major players in the transfer portal.

And with North Carolina losing in the championship game to Oklahona, could the Trojans have reached the final if they took care of business vs. North Carolina?

  1. The Athletic’s final poll has UCLA 10th…and USC 14th —probably a little closer to reality [although, not being a realist, I like Baseball America’s rankings better]….

      3. “During his tenure as the 40th Mayor of Los Angeles (2001–2005), James Hahn faced significant controversies, primarily driven by a 2004 City Hall “pay-to-play” corruption investigation regarding city contracts at LAX and the Port of Los Angeles. These scandals, coupled with the polarizing ousting of LAPD Chief Bernard Parks, ultimately cost him re-election”

      1. Stupid enough to post another apples to oranges comparison. We don’t see Sane Gabby posting under a bunch of other names.

        She’s such an idiot.

  4. John Savage deserved this humiliating kick to the crotch!!

SC played over their heads, which is exactly what a coach is supposed to get his team to do at end of season. this round goes to Lil’ Stanky!! Savage held Reddmman out too long…in the playoffs, as Dan Fouts famously said of the SCLSU MudDogs: “you can’t hold anything back!”

  5. DON: The publication that rated SC baseball ahead of ucla apparently placed emphasis on how a team did in the Tournament

KAM: Meanwhile, I can’t make out what the Norwegians are saying, but I’m all for anything that gets a crowd acting as one

…But, sincerely, doesn’t the “crotch” this and the “crotch” that thing get old for you?

      2. KAM: Once again Cowardly Gabby aka Charlie Bucket undermines herself as she impersonates the old poster Sparrow Calypso who left the board 3 years ago.

DON: She has the self destructive need to give her various ruses away.

      3. I’m pretty sure most of the Sparrows are really John —- I like to think that the truly offbeat ones are Sybil’s [who I’m hoping isn’t Charlie —but you make a good case]…..

  6. Like Scott, I would like to hear from Coach Andy why Mason Edwards did not pitch the ninth inning of the final game being that he had only pitched less than five innings in the entire super regional after five days of rest after the regional games. USC would have done very well in the CWS just as North Carolina did. What if will always be the question about this year, but being ranked ahead of the big, bad Bruins is a victory in itself. I trust that Coach Andy will continue to field quality teams with the players that he recruits. The new pitching coach with his star pitcher coming to USC should help mitigate the loss of Edwards and Allen. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

    1. All nice …but what really matters is Jayden throwing for 300 yards and King Miller running for 300 more against Oregon…. and then doing it again against Washington…. and then Ohio State….

  7. DON: We can now look at SC baseball in the rearview mirror and get ready for football

KAM: –Can’t wait to see whether Maiava improved from last year

DON: That’s the offense, half the team, I want to see SC become a whole team again

  8. Scooter and chuckster,

Reminder, you look at the entire season. You just don’t look at the regular season. You gotta look ar the playoffs as well. We all saw that ugly was just a punching bag for St. Mary’s. They were lucky to finish in the top 14.

    1. KAM : Yet the Bruins dominated USC 9-1 , 8-5 and 10-2 , won the Big Ten handily and are ranked lower?

DON: That seems a bit bizarre.
