Morning Buzz: USC And Notre Dame Agree To Four-Game Series in 2030

USC and Notre Dame will resume their rivalry in 2030 for four seasons, the schools announced.

The games will be played in Week 1 or Week 2 of the season.

So what was point of ending the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football for four years?

I’ll tell you. The Baby Man needed to get his way at USC. He doesn’t like the game being played in October or November. He could have just accepted tradition and kept the series going while trying to get the dates changed.

He doesn’t expect to be at USC in 2030 (his reps put feelers out for other jobs after last season) and he knows a 24-team playoff is coming.

So he walked away from Notre Dame and ruined a rivalry that had only stopped for World War II and Covid.

The only good part is if we are lucky he will be gone before the series resumes and then maybe some of the games can be placed back in October or November. Hosting Notre Dame at the end of August doesn’t exactly sound tantalizing but it’s better than nothing.

Notre Dame is giving up a home-and-home with Indiana to get the USC series back on track.

Look how obnoxious Lincoln Riley sounded in a quote on the series coming back:

“We felt like the best thing for our program was to play this game early in the season. We’re a part of a conference, we have a conference schedule to answer to. We don’t make our own schedule.”

P.S. — This will not be discussed elsewhere but USC lost a non-trivial amount of money in recent months because angry donors pulled back after the series was discontinued.

      1. You’re assuming he achieves 9-3. Right now, his winning percentage is .003 better than Clay’s.

        8 Steve Sarkisian 0.667

        9 Lincoln Riley 0.660

        10 Clay Helton 0.657

        11 Lane Kiffin 0.651

        12 Jeff Cravath 0.644

        13 Larry Smith 0.632

        14 Ted Tollner 0.564

      2. YOU NEED TO PUT AN ASTERISK NEXT TO THE NAMES YOU MENTIONED BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T HAVE TO DEAL WITH NIL CONTRACTS OR FREE AGENCY.

YOUR LOW FOOTBALL IQ IS OBVIOUS……JUST SAYING!

  1. Not a fan of Riley Coyote, but he’s right about the scheduling. For years, Stanford & USC accommodated Notre Dame by playing their game early. It is standard in the Big 10 to play non-conference games early and uninterrupted conference games late. I remember USC season ticket holders in my section getting relocated for the Notre Dame game just to accommodate their fans. USC has bent over backwards for this obnoxious fan base, about time they forced the issue.

    1. USC used to play in South Bend in November, complained, got the game moved to October, and now that’s not good enough. You think playing ND in week one or two is smart ???? SC is pathetic and stupid.

USC made their bed when they sold their soul for money, that got a far tougher conference to play and travel in, that doesn’t matter as long as the money rolls in. Bottom line, put a better product on the field to compete, Indiana sure did and they have nowhere near the financial resources USC does, but they do have a top flight head coach.

USC needs to can this pencil neck twerp and hire a real football coach and for once, think outside the box, don’t hand the keys to Patterson because you’ll be mediocre for as long as he’s there.

      1. Budda,

It is Pencil Neck Geek, not twerp. LOLOL. The problem in joining the Big 10 is that SC has to travel to kingdom come and back to get to the midwest. They have to go at least 4 times. Traveling east to a game is tougher than going west for a game. When going east you still have to play. But going west, you gain time, play the game, and then you go east to get back. The game is already over.

    2. My thoughts exactly NILU, Scott, when will you stop being an ND whisperer? USC is our school not ND. Every other big time FBS school plays tough intersectional games as the first or second of the season with many being in neutral settings. We do not need to bow down to the Princess school like you seem to always want to do. And, please Scott don’t root for USC to lose this year just so you can say I told you so about LR. If after the Oregon game which USC wins, you don’t congratulate LR, we will know that you are just petty and have an obsessive need to be contrary. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

      2. Ambitouis,

Scooter is ragging on the fact that the pencil neck geek has not delievered in the four years that he has been here. Even if he beats Oregon, his reputation is shot. The only way he can make up for it is to win the natty and the qb wins a heisman.

  2. KAM: Bias can taint an objective view. SC simply did not want to have a tough ND game interrupt its ‘Big-10 schedule.

DON: Besides, what a way to kick off the football season with an SC-Notre Dame game

      1. KAM: The rah rahs tell us USC should start the season with crummy teams this season because we play such a hard Big Ten schedule and now the talking points are that we should start with ND!

        DON: I got whiplash!

  3. Bad news for hoops – our 7’1″ transfer center from UConn had foot surgery on Friday. I would imagine out for at least 4 months, maybe longer. Exact surgery is unspecified as far as I know, but recovery from foot surgery takes forever.

  4. Well look who ‘blinked’.. why my lands twas’ ‘the princess’ and mind you not out of rehearsed ‘feminine coyness’ no, rather a looming trench was in play….’the princess’ is now seeing what their ‘…we’re the sole independent school (save CT)…look at us!’ Yeah true that but you’re ‘….tee hee…why sir you do not address a lady like that…’ act is no longer that of a desirable ‘ingenue’ but that of an aging former sexpot showing her age at ’38’.

Now you realize why your ‘independent’ role is your own albatross. Waiting for Cignetti’s reaction i.e. IN wasn’t going to ‘budge’ makes the game (USC @ IN) looming this November with an added ‘twist’.

USC has triumphed – Scott will now be ‘in tandem’ with Petros Papadakis and they can both suck up to Brady Quinn this Wednesday or on the daily ‘PMS Show’ on 570.

USC has triumphed! ‘the princess’ needs USC far more than what the slavish media (Wolf) assumed.

  5. No ND is not ‘giving up’ games with Indiana. Indiana is cancelling all their power 4 out of conference schedule.

This situation is full of pussies. Indiana. Lincoln. Cohen.

It’s obvious now that Lincoln left OK because he wanted to dodge the SEC. Doubt he comes if he knew SC would join the Big10.

HOWEVER, the key things is that ND BENT THE KNEE. SC insisted on early games. ND tried to refused and now they capitulated.

    USC STILL OWNS ND!

    BOW DOWN IRISH SCUM!

    FIGHT ON!!!

  6. Looks like all of fake Gabby’s political BS was exterminated. Perhaps he/she can go back to the “gotroy22” handle

    Keep it up, Scott

      1. KAM: Cowardly Gabby has the blues because she has been told climate disasters are getting worse. According to the world’s leading disaster database, climate-related disasters show no trend since 2000. And climate-related deaths have collapsed by over 98% since 1920, with deaths dropping from nearly 500,000 per year to under 10,000 today. Floods, droughts, storms, and wildfires are not increasing. And on top of that, humanity is just far more resilient than it used to be.

DON: There is no crisis, just progress. Poor Cowardly Gabby is a sap!
