USC Notes: Gary Patterson Offers Unofficial Role For This Season

I don’t put a lot of stock in things that get said today or during USC training camp. The exception is Gary Patterson, because he knows what he is doing.

Patterson said one of his roles — besides running the defense — is to be a resource for Lincoln Riley.

“There’s not a lot of guys in this profession of the age that you can gather and go back to things that I’ve learned through all the years,” he said. “That’s what I try to do for coach Riley if he needs me, if he has questions, (I tell him), ‘Here’s what I’ve seen before, and here’s what’s happening.’ ”

  • The official grand opening for the new football building is Wednesday.
  • If USC had just kept Brian Kennedy’s name on this field, it could have avoided a lawsuit.

    1. Someone should steal the apostrophe keys from your keyboard. That, and the stupid nicknames that you gotta resort to every single post, would drive any reader nuts. Or anyone but Guarino.

Too much gin and Stones for too many years and the cliches can take over your whole vocabulary. Beware.

  1. Coach Patterson to Coach Riley during Indiana game: “I’ve seen this before, Coach! Their Offensive Line is more physical than our Defensive Line.”

    #Gary: “Nothing…..

      3. Michael,

The name Snotty Scotty has already been taken. The name was Snotty Scottie and the Hankies. They were a local band in Pasadena and they had started back in the late 1970’s. They played mostly songs from the 50’s-60’s and some 70’s. He knew over 400 songs. They played the Who, Love, Soul Benz, Buffalo Springfield, The Coasters, and others, but no beatles. Thank God on that

  2. KAM: No matter how you cut it, SC was in the wrong

DON: If you are taking his name off of an SC field then at least tell the guy beforehand

  3. KAM: –On to a more pleasant conversation piece, I see where SC’s coach Patterson said, “There’s not a lot of guys…” which apparently was a compliment to “Riley,” as he called him.

DON: But Coach’s explanation was unclear and open to many interpretations. He possibily meant he is Wiley’s mentor

    1. Scott, can you delete all the political BS coming from fake Gabby? Block the account if it continues. Please do the right thing to make this blog respectable again

      Thank you!

  4. KAM: You and I are ok if we don’t get over-political, but yesterday you talked about “decapitating” Iran’s leadership. “Them’s fighting words”

  6. DON: Another thing about the ‘old days is that when a school got a kid they had him for 3 or 4 years

KAM: Now the players talk about how many ‘months they spent at any one school

      1. Those were the days. Before Swann had even finished a small bucket on the $50,000 golf simulator, Kliff was heading back to LAX

  7. Scott, will you be attending the grand opening of the multimillion dollar football center? Just like you to dredge up Brian Kennedy in your discussion about the new Center which he refused to help with a donation. He preferred to keep his name in the spotlight because of his 400,000 dollar donation 25 years ago, but nothing to help the new project. Scott, isn’t that what you have been doing with Inside USC all these years…..you live off the name but don’t support the school as a true alum. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

      1. Why sir I’d wager that ‘co-ed’ free for all enacted on CNN a mere 50+ hrs ago is more apropos..

Bash vs Kennedy…best part wad whrn RFK Jr. 2×4 her asking isn’t it the job of the press to question authority?

Her look of shock was priceless

  8. KAM: Since most of the players don’t have much of an attachment to ol’ SC, it’s hard to drum up an attachment to them

    1. Okay, P. T.

Sally Bloom was the first woman to ever play center for Notre Dame. She later married the quarterback, saying “I felt a close connection from the first time we stayed late after practice to get the snap down just right.”
