USC Morning Buzz: Can You Make A Case For The Offensive Line?

I’ve gone against the grain and identified the offensive line as an area of concern throughout the offseason.

Many listed it as a strength and one reason was the return of all five starters.

With Tobias Raymond switching to center, one option is that Hayden Treter will start at left guard. So now we have an inexperienced center and a left guard who did not start a game until the Alamo Bowl last season. In fact, he was mostly used on special teams last year.

And right tackle is also not secured as Justin Tauanuu and Elijah Vikona are battling at the spot.

The good news for USC is a pathetic first three games (San Jose State, Fresno State, Louisiana) that are glorified exhibition games. So that will give the offensive linemen time to get experience if necessary.

But there will be questions about how good they are, especially when Oregon and Co. show up on the schedule. I would argue that any concerns I had in the spring and even more amplified today.

  • The Lakers were sold to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger for more than $12 billion. Of course, Iger is the husband of Willow Bay, who is the dean of the USC Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism.

  1. DON: All 5 starters on the SC offensive line returned, but now one is down, leaving 4

KAM: And the line is watered down further because a starter is being moved to center and a brand new guy will take over the vacated spot

  2. Will Iger provide some pocket change for USC NIL? It would make Ed. G happy, and that is about as good as one can do.

One option regarding the O-line is running some two TE sets. Su’A reports that Bowman looks to be “unguardable” (6’4″, 250), and there is also Tabarraci who blocks well.

      1. Says the person who wishes Mr. Garrison’s transportation invention was real. With the things you love to post about, we all know it’s true!

      2. She’s a miserable, lonely person and it’s pretty obvious. Her posts illustrate that all too well. Constantly seeking attention by crying & insulting people.

It’s really quite sad. What kind of person would find enjoyment in that? A very sick person, that’s who.

  3. KAM: SC’s first 3 games are being called “pathetic” and nothing but “exhibition games”

DON: That all will change in 2030 when one of the first games will be SC-Notre Dame

    1. We will have a coach by then, who doesn’t run from strong opponents.

One, maybe two, cupcakes at the beginning of the season is fine. But all three?! Not acceptable.

DON: Remember when she told us Curtis Conway never returned a single kick off for USC? What a dolt!

  5. wolfman, love how you cut thru the bull and see the trOJies for what they really are, rather than what the Rah-Rahs, the Wah-Wahs and the Company Men WANT to see. history tells us the teams who rely on cupcakes to gain some traction in the early polls end up paying for it later. Take UCLA’s early basketball schedule: they will play AZ, Gonzaga, and maybe Tex depending on Tourney results. they will probably lose 2/3 of these because they wont be playing together yet, but it will pay off later when they make a late season run as they normally do under Scrappy Mick!

  6. Good that Scott recognizes that nonconference games are like NFL preseason games. With roster turnover every year, all teams need the early nonconference games. USC finally got the best recruiting class in the country last year including some of the top OL linemen who appear to be college ready. I hope that Elija Paige stays healthy, he is a big key to the OL. Scott, I know that Iger was CEO of Disney and made a terrific salary with stock options, but how did he come up with half of the 12 billion. The Kushner family has access to Saudi money so are they just a cover for other well healed investors? Does this have anything to do with the legal troubles of Walters. Your minions need to know the scoop about the Lakers. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

  7. KAM: I know the season starts on August 29, but for some the real season begins on September 26 with Oregon

DON: Most everybody including Vegas believes this will be another Ducks’ victory

KAM: Most indicators show that SC needs this victory to have a chance at the Playoffs

    1. Oregon looks better on paper [especially now that we’ve lost our center]….but…. if Coach Riley can’t take Oregon out at the Coliseum it’s gonna be a long season…
