USC Notes: Former Quarterbacks Have Sons Teaming Up

Last night’s Santa Margarita football game featured QB Fletch Palmer throwing a TD pass to WR Grant Van Raaphorst.

Palmer is the son of Santa Margarita coach and ex-USC QB Carson Palmer. Van Raaphorst was the son of former USC QB Mike Van Raaphorst.

Carson Palmer and Mike Van Raaphorst were teammates at USC.

  • Some sad news: Ralph Allman, who was a huge supporter of USC athletics, passed away earlier this week. Allman was a member of the Board of Trustees in the 1990’s and served as President of the General Alumni Association. He was also a major supporter of the USC dental school and taught there part-time in addition to his private practice.

If you went to a USC basketball game at the Sports Arena or Galen Center, he was fixture sitting courtside and loyal booster.

  1. Fletch Palmer looking like a young Carson, 21/31, 242 yards and 2 TD in a 27-0 win. Maybe Carson will be the coach waiting in the wings for USC down the road, I have seen nothing but great discussions about his coaching ability.

    1. In an email, Hal?

Look for an icon that looks like a staple. Click on it and it will prompt you to identify where the PNG, JPEG, etc. file is located.

      1. Oh well – Gonna have to give a “Words eye view”. I have a game program from the USC vs. Notre Dame game back in 2000. On the cover side by side are QB’s Carson Palmer and Mike Van Raaphorst.Just can’t drag a photo onto the comments section. Thanks SoCal -you’re the best.

    2. By the way, I failed to mention that you need to click on New first, to compose a new email.

After you add any email addresses and a subject line (this can be empty), go to the body of the email. The “staple” icon will not appear until you are in the body of the message.

    1. I’ve never posted a photo from a file, only something that was online.

Right clicking on the picture for “Copy Image Link”, then pasting it as previously described. Sorry.

  2. Good report Scott, and good tribute to a great Trojan fan. What year in high school are the two legacies? Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

      1. KAM: Sure they will.

DON: There won’t be a NCAA in 4 years, the Big Ten and SEC will take over college football and none of these agreements in the future will be in effect.

  5. KAM: So Carson Palmer’s son is now throwing touchdowns just like his old man

DON: I guess it’s all in the genes– some got it and some don’t

      1. Charlie,

Please do a little more photoshopping — so D. T. is making it with 2 of the the Martians in Spielberg’s War of the Worlds…. and maybe fake NASA astronauts are landing on the moon in the background….

  6. KAM: These movies about children magically assuming adult bodies such as “Big” and “13 going on 30,” is remindful of keeping alive that inborn sense of wonder

DON: Speaking of children, did you know the great Plato once wrote: “Of all animals, the boy is the most unmanageable”

  10. I just looked up Maui’s volcano Haleakala, and it has only erupted 10 times in a 1000 years.

Besides, in case of an eruption the Maui authorities will assure all is well
