USC Morning Buzz: Time For A Recruiting Theory

Offensive tackle Austin Attalah of Orange Lutheran High School has committed to Texas Tech. He chose the Red Raiders over USC and Texas.

So I’ve had a theory on USC recruiting for this season, especially after Charmin Bowden said the Trojans will take a smaller class of around 15 players, theoretically because he doesn’t believe there are many good prospects.

USC reportedly spent at least $30 million on its No. 1-ranked recruiting class. What if it doesn’t have another $30 million for this year’s class, which would mean it could take fewer recruits? At least it would explain why you go from more than 30 players in a class to 15, which creates an unbalanced roster.

USC will probably lose 5-7 true freshmen after the season, so that creates more money for the 2028 class, which seems to be heavily focused on. At this point, USC has not demonstrated it can spent $30-plus million in consecutive seasons.

      1. One of those classy Southern Ladies, who probably never uttered a foul word towards another. Instead, just said, “Bless her heart.”

        I laugh when people claim to know anything about a person because they bumped into them at an airport or anywhere else. But that was certainly the image Dolly put out there. If it was genuine, she’s in a better place right now.

  3. USC’s entire roster is valued at $35 million. USC is number 6, Texas is way out in front at $49 million followed by the low class quacks at $43 million.

    This link shows that if you want to compete, you better be spending a minimum of $30 million. Clemson spends $26 million and you see how they have fallen since NIL.

    2. 67′ as shrewd as Nick Sabin was in seeing the writing on the wall (NIL) and choosing wisely to ‘move on’ after 2023 (17 yrs).

      Swinney hasn’t. He’s loud and clear of his loathing of NIL but that’s what many my age (myself included) constantly decry the 21st Century and technology….go with it or get out of the way….it (tech) don’t care.

      Based on that $26 mil Clemson has spent it is obvious someone made some really poor choices or more likely – sadly but bluntly – what top tier 5 star athletes want to play in upstate South Carolina?
      No depth – no deep bench – don’t matter – one injury away from ‘palookaville’ and that’s where Clemson finds itself in 2026…..a trivial pursuit sports bonus answer 20 years hence.

  5. I once saw Dolly Parton singing a song to Johnny Carson about how she made it big thanks to being on the Carson show. We won’t see the likes of her ever again

  6. Ms. Parton also said that she did not tell people how to behave or what to believe in, that she simply wanted to set an example as she lived her life
