USC Notes: Dept. Of Bonehead Decisions

The juice boxes seem to have fallen out of favor. They were not readily seen at Penn State and if they were there, they kept a low-profile.

Did someone at USC suddenly decide they were an embarrassment? How come Lincoln Riley hasn’t said what happened?

  • How bad is D’Anton Lynn? I consistently ripped him at USC. Then he rushes three men against USC when teams that succeed against Jayden Maiava apply pressure.
  • The USC-Wisconsin game will kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT and be on NBC. It’s the fourth straight game on NBC.

I’ve had enough of Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge. Eagle makes a huge deal out of nothing plays and Blackledge (who I like personally) has a tendency to act like USC’s defense is making huge strides, even against pop-gun offenses. And don’t ask him to pronounce “Mater Dei.”

  1. The Wolfster is on the $ regarding he announcers, but what is the alternative? They’re all corporate spinsters now. Blackledge (like Gary Danielson) has always seemed like a good dude and knowledgeable former NFL QB type … but would guess he can only say what he is allowed to (I recall former 49er great John Brodie being the best, most candid color commentator at one point but being disappeared in favor of bland colorless commentators).

  2. KAM: D’Anton Lynn: the first defensive coordinator at UCLA to earn over a million dollars. His estimated salary as the defensive coordinator for USC is $2 million a year , making him one of the highest paid at his position in college football. As defensive coordinator for Penn State is reported to be over $2 million per year.

DON: $7 million in 4 years for a DEI Creation. Good gig .

  3. KAM: We have the makings of a religious battle between Notre Dame and BYU. Who do you like?

DON: Don’t test me. I like them both

  4. KAM: According to ESPNs Playoff Predictor, the Trojans were missing entirely. Coming out of the Big Ten were the Buckeyes, who claimed the fifth seed, the Hoosiers in the seventh seed and the Bruins sliding in at the tenth seed.

DON: ESPN’s playoff predictor is also giving the Trojans a 17 percent chance to be one of the 12 teams. UCLA (28 percent), Indiana (88 percent), Ohio State (77 percent) and even Nebraska (21 percent) have the edge over USC in this analytical predictor as well.

    1. That 28% for SUCLA was, no doubt, before their #1 QB went down. And as James said, that 17% is very generous.

Our real chance is in the single digits.

    1. they are saying Uncle Nico is done for season. our new qb Diffenbach throws a nice ball, he has bit of a problem with Happy Feet, but since we are a run first offense, we can probably keep most of the pressure off him. Nico missed too many easy passes for a ball control offense, this might actually help the offense.
