Did USC Commit Own Goal On Ohio State Game?

It looks like it will take some heavy lifting for the athletic dept. to call the Ohio State game a psedo-sellout.

Plenty of seats left! The athletic dept. is probably blaming the Ohio State fans for not buying more tickets.

But until recently, USC was not allowing fans to buy tickets for this game, unless it was part of a package deal that no Ohio State would want to touch.

Does an Ohio State fan want to be forced to buy a ticket to the Louisiana or Fresno State game? Does a USC fan?

  • It got lost in the Penn State shuffle, but do I want to address the USC-North Carolina basketball exhibition? It looked a lot like last season, to be honest.

  1. Well at least USC is thoroughly incompetent … what did the Duke of Wellington supposedly say? “In for a penny, in for a pound.” Of course, he never lost a battle (can only imagine how we would refer to the USC administration down to the head coach, given his famous “scum of the Earth” statement about his own Army that gave him that undefeated record).

    1. loving today’s historical comparisons to Lil” Lord Riley!! especially the Gen George McClelland reference!! the trOJies HC job has got to be the most unforgiving position is all college ball. every coach since Cheatey Petey has been pilloried if not vilified, with the even the wolfman himself running several outta town!!

      1. CB: Yeah I love history – have been rereading Robert Leckie’s (British perspective of all things) civil war extension of his early US history series … had all but forgotten about good old “Case of the Slows” McClellan and his extreme allergic reaction to anything beyond the parade ground … sure seems like a pretty fair historical analogy … btw read your theory on your QB situation – you know, it wouldn’t be the first time that type of scenario unfolded (didn’t Urban play three different QBs by the time the Buckeyes won a national championship … Oklahoma with Jamelle Holieway in for Aikman … Brooks Bollenger getting Nebraska to the Orange Bowl for Tommy Frazier … Billy Joe Hobert in for Mark Brunell … probably others I’m forgetting) …

      2. Yes, exactly! Watching Wiley run this is sort of like:

McClellan: “I need more … everything.”

        Abe: “You got it.”

McClellan: “Everything’s ready, victory is assured.”

        Abe: “Ok, now do it.”

McClellan: “I need more … everything.”

        Abe: “Now.”

        Peninsula Campaign

        McClellan: “Genius. Sheer genius.”

        Abe: “I’m waiting.”

McClellan: “But I only outnumber them 100K+ to 5K. I need more … everything.”

Abe: “I am out of patience.” [Note: That is where the historical analogy fails as USC’s leadership is no Abe]

McClellan: “But, but, but … it’s so hard!”

Abe: “You’re fired.” [Note: Again, this is where, at least thus far, the historical analogy fails]

  2. USC Athletics marketing needs to lean in on L.A.’s Mexican food prowess to reel in those Buckeye fans.
Columbus Ohio has relatively mediocre Mexican fare. Offer them a free taco at Holbox and a free michelada at La Chuperia and include lots of food pix in the ads…tack the food cost onto the cost to their tickets and it’s a wrap…or a burrito, if you prefer.

  3. This Don and Kam stuff is really comical, almost as funny as Maui Guarino. Can somebody explain it to me. This is what I found on the Internet. Who’s Don and who’s Kam? Thanks.

On the Inside USC with Scott Wolf sports blog, DON and KAM (often styled as “KAM:” and “DON:”) are running formatting devices used by blog commenters—most notably a frequent poster named Gabby—to present a comedic, two-sided script or dialogue within the comment section

Rather than being separate people, they function as a rhetorical device to contrast two opposing viewpoints or to deliver a quick-hitting, sarcastic punchline about USC sports, local politics, or news

    1. KAM: ESPN’s Mark Schlabach and Kyle Bonagura have mixed projections on which bowl game USC will play in at the end of the season.

Schlabach projects the Trojans will play the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28. Bonagura, however, went in a different direction, projecting the Trojans to play the Oklahoma Sooners in the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 31.

DON:Cowardly Gabby can pretend she is going to confront Scoot again if they play in the Las Vegas Bowl!
