It’s easy to forget some aspects of USC that the paid propogandists pushed all offseason and have conveniently forgotten as the season heads south.
Remember we were constantly told how USC returned the most starters and the most returning production?
A prime example of this was the offensive line. I never understood this. If players are not getting it done as juniors, what makes you think they will have a sudden transformation as seniors? It happens with coaching but who is coaching at USC?
- Remember the bragging about what the strength coach was doing? There was a whole thing from the paid propogandists about players losing or gaining weight on the eve of training camp.
At the time, I wrote, “I don’t care about weight. I care about performance.” We were told defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett went from 375 pounds to 360. What happened to him? Does he play?
- Here’s another indictment of Lincoln Riley. He has whined about the schedule, the travel, teams coming off byes, etc.
But has USC played a good team yet? It has two losses and still hasn’t played anyone of note. Oregon has three losses. Dylan Raiola has looked terrible in every game except USC. But the Ducks were literally the only team USC played that could pass and run the ball.
Who else did USC play? Wisconsin? Penn State? Washington? Could any of them pass the ball proficiently?
This schedule was tailor made for a good coach to mow down a bunch of one-dimensional teams. And Lincoln Riley bungled it.
This might go down as a generational miss for having an opportunity to really do something in the playoffs. Of course, if USC beats Ohio State, Indiana and UCLA . . .
DON: If the big 3 games coming up for SC were 50-50 games then the Trojans still would have only one chance in 8 of winning them all
KAM: Of course they aren’t 50-50 games, so what do you think SC’s chances are, one in a trillion?

Buddha- this is exactly the kind of coach we need! A hyper competitive, no nonsense coach who just plain gets it. It’s completely amazing to me- this guy – the alleged savant in play calling, is so far up his own a$$, that he cant see the game in real time. He hasn’t a clue. His sole purpose in his mind is to call plays- NOT COACH THE ENTIRE TEAM! Funny thing is, despite that singular focus- he’s only average as a play caller. He fairly good against cream puff teams- atrocious against quality physical defenses. The list of grievances I have against this guy is long- and the fact he hasn’t improved as a leader, a coach, a play caller in 5 years is criminal. Someone with a bent nose and knuckles dragging on the ground needs to meet him at his home and give him an offer he can’t refuse!

Jason Eck’s Philosophy
Handling Adversity: Run the ball, lean on the offensive line, and slow the game down to regain physical control.
In-Game Goal: Dictate physical terms, win time of possession, and wear out the opponent’s depth by the 4th quarter.
The “Ideal” Drive: A 14-play, 75-yard drive featuring mid-zone runs and devastating play-action passes.
Lincoln Riley’s Philosophy
Handling Adversity: Hunt for an explosive chunk play, alter the passing concept, and trust the QB to make an off-platform play.
In-Game Goal: Score quickly, force the opponent out of their game plan, and use scoreboard pressure to dictate terms.
The “Ideal” Drive: A 4-play, 80-yard drive that isolates an elite receiver on a safety for a deep touchdown.

I’m good with that. You probably know the state of coaching availabilities better than me. I suggested Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz (beat Day and Ohio State in a Cotton Bowl, Florida multiple times, had Georgia beat at Athens … has produced multiple high NFL picks at multiple positions to include offensive and defensive line, linebacker, and wide receiver … wants to run whenever possible – national rushing leader three years ago, then last year Hardy was top 2 in the nation, and this year Roberts with back-to-back 200 yard games … has attitude).

Completely accurate. You could have added complete ignorance of anything outside of play calling as another trait of the doofus.

A) the players dancing around holding up juice boxes while doing chorus-girl high kicks.
B) The lil’ fellow constantly tapping Lil’ Lord Fauntleroy’s shoulder between plays

On Rogan & Rodney’s show today Rodney Peete did a sharp harsh contrast of why it matters that Riley made note ‘post-game’ loss to WI that the loss was on him.
“Had he said that beginning in year 1 the reaction today would be harsh but not to the degree it is…listen he was given:
State of the art training facility…NIL money….a quality GM…on and on…he said there would be results.
Instead Riley always deferred to: guys out of position…missed blocks…we’re close..his body language during the WI game was telling…no confidence…emotions running amuk…scared.
Then Peete hit hard.
“USC is reknown historically as ‘tailback U’ something Riley abhors…his whole skill is passing…passing won’t win you games…running does…there is no physicality…he stated the players were physically ready…look like that against WI? Note this Riley is 5 -15 against ranked opponents and can’t win on the road.”

Aside from the 70MM owed this bum, I trust there is no one on the planet that wants him to stay. If every large donor went to the school and demanded that they fire him or else no more donations, – I assume they would have to follow suit! He has no one in his corner. The players will now quit on him- as they never benefited from his coaching and improved in any way- and the school will be stuck regardless. PULL OFF THE BANDAID!

Everyone loves throwing around that $70M figure. That was at the beginning of the season. After this season, it’s closer to $60M.
And even that is paid over the next 5 years AND will be reduced by whatever he makes in his next role. So it’s just as much about ego and the university admitting how foolish they were at this point, as it is about money.

We don’t need a wonder-coach, we need an adult with maturity and sht in his neck, and who isn’t a scammer, an anti-social weirdo, or someone trying to show they can re-invent USC football. We have a GM recruiter / relations guy now, and all the cash, facilities, brand, etc. so the coaching job is simpler than ever. Just oversee USC big boy football. We know what USC football should look like.
Offense
A more varied running game and blocking schemes. QB under center when necessary. TEs / Y-Backs / RBs / WRs that can block, run, catch. More 21, 22, 12, 13, play action- Physical football. No blown blocks and assignments. Roll outs, tunnel screens, backside plays, Wheel routes, Pop / Shovels, QB runs, and reverses mixed in so the OL is protected from aggressive defenses. Big backs in the mix.
Defense
Stop the run. Stop YAC. Give the opposing offense run short passes and wait for the field to shrink / offensive errors happen. Never blow coverage. Mix in pressure including delayed pressure to interrupt rhythm, when you have favorable field position. Angles, leverage, tackling, shedding blocks, hand fighting, stripping. No LB or safety at USC should be too slow or get trucked trying to stop the run.
Special teams
Spend the money on the kicking game / returns special teams. No one values them enough but they are the most important part of the team on a per play basis.
Disclipline
No procedural penalties or unnecessary fouls, consistent technique- if you get beat you get beat but don’t beat yourself or your own team and let the refs adjust to consistent physicality.
Effort
Play to the echo of the whistle- team tackling / secure the tackle, stand up and strip the opposing runner, team push your own runner for extra yards, stop the opposing team pushing for extra yards, ball security on offense, be ready to recover the loose ball.

KAM: While Riley Coyote refuses to tell us any injury reports, we discover Austin Siereveld and most of Ohio State’s defenders who were injured against Indiana will be back on the field against USC.
Ryan Day said Ohio State “should have a full week of practice and a full arsenal of guys up front” when asked about the health of the Buckeyes’ offensive line, suggesting that Siereveld will be able to return after missing Ohio State’s last two games due to illness.
Day knows Ohio State’s offensive line will be crucial this week as the Buckeyes break in a new quarterback for his first career start.
“We’re going to lean on them more to be the guys who lead this team,” Day said. “You got a young quarterback right there, I mean, they’re going to be looking at him, but he’s going to be looking at them. And I got to give them credit already, they’re already building up the confidence of our young quarterbacks.”
DON: Day was also asked about the health of three defensive players – Kenyatta Jackson Jr., Jay Timmons and John Walker – who suffered injuries in the second half of Ohio State’s win over Indiana. In response, Day indicated that he expected most but not all of them to play against USC.
“The bye week came at a good time. So I think we’ll get the majority of these guys back,” Day said. “I don’t know if we’ll get them all back. We’ll kind of see how the week goes. But the bye week definitely came at a good time, and I feel like we’re going to get the majority of them back here for this week of work and into the game against USC.”

They are going to dismantle the feeble O line and D line of SC. If Wisconsin did it with a scrub QB, Imagine what a team like Ohio St will do to us. It’s going to be a bloodbath on our home field- and the doofus will look like a deer with headlights in his eyes. Finally, back to back games where a complete throttling will leave little doubt how far away the program is from being relevant. Not to mention what Indiana will do to us. This will be the kind of car wreck I want to watch!

Jeff – You are on fire today … this last one couldn’t possibly agree more … and this from the (The!) USC of Mix, Yary, Vella, Mullins, Riley, Powell, Budde, Munoz, Van Horne, Foster, Mosebar, Matthews, Boselli, Justice, Baker, Kalil, Smith … and on and on … now the offense can’t gain a yard to save itself when it matters when confronted by stubborn opposition … lots of people bash the players, but I don’t buy that – it’s entirely poor coaching (not only fundamentals, but attitude, which is usually born of competition in practice and hard conditioning … coupled with the players believing the physical, hard approach is desirable and not to be avoided, which is so easily accomplished in the air raid 7-on-7 daycare that the (The!) Coyote runs …

DON: “I thought Steve Sarkisian was going to work at USC. I thought Lane Kiffin was going to work at USC. I thought Lincoln Riley was going to work at USC. None have,” Cowherd said on Monday (h/t On3). “Losing to Wisconsin, a solid, not spectacular team, and scoring seven points is bad.”
