Is The Country Focused On USC?

Todd Blackledge does a pro-USC podcast with Yogi Roth. Here is what Blackledge said about Lincoln Riley.

“I think he’s done a really good job building there at USC. I hope he doesn’t get fired.”

Has Riley done a good job building? We are in Year 5. Five years to build? At USC?

Roth added: “I feel like the country is always on this USC thing. Whenever they fail, jump on it.”

Is this true? I don’t think the nation really talks about USC like it would have during the Carroll Era or the 1970’s.

USC remains an obsession of the pundits (Cowherd, Klatt, Pate, Roth) but I think across the nation it is the teams in the South and Midwest that dominate the conversation and USC is a sidelight.

  1. I am sure football interest is parochial. For example, I bet in Iowa they are celebrating the shut out of Wisconsin and could care less about what is happening at SC

      1. Seems the vast majority of common sense voters showed that they were absolutely sick and tired of the new Iran War with no end in sight, tariff fueled inflation, federal agents shredding due process rights & running amok like Sturmabteilung Brownshirts, a Repugnicant Congress afraid of and subservient to a senile POTUS who likes to talk about and focus on men’s derrieres days before this election (not to mention his own history of sexual assault and weird fetishes with underage girls and his refusal to release the Ep stein PDF files after making it a campaign promise…why?).

Unlike establishment Dems and Repugnicants (and MAGAts), Democratic Socialists and progressive candidates did well in both local and federal offices races because they actually listened to the American people of all backgrounds who are struggling.

  2. it’s a problem following charismatic Sneaky Pete, despite the fact he fled town one step ahead of the law. reminds me a bit of the plight of poor Gene Bartow who followed the great John Wooden. he went something like 52-8 over two seasons, incl two Pac 8 titles, a final four and a sweet 16, and still got run outta town for not winning enough. Sark and Kiff do seem to have grown up quite a bit from their youthful days of boozing and scrapping with the wolfman.

  3. yes, in the run up to the osu game, I only heard discussions of osu’s advantages or disadvantages. it was all – how will osu handle this or that (new qb, use smith, etc.).

there was barely any discussion of what usc was going to do. no, how will secondary contain smith, or how will sc dl match up.

the discussions were like 80/20 osu.

    1. trojan1967, what say you about the fact that the Blue Tsunami also means that a lot more progressive and Democratic Socialist candidates also won local and federal races? I know there’s a lot of bigoted, bootlicking MAGAts on this blog…they’ve always been here, although the smart ones are abandoning that fast sinking ship. Yet doesn’t it feel great that this country is moving left and sent the LOUDEST message repudiating the failed, corrupt MAGAt bigotry and politics/policies?

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they’re red, white and blue
And when the band plays “Hail to the Chief”
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

Yeah-yeah, some folks inherit star-spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask ’em, “How much should we give?”
Hoo, they only answer, “More, more, more, more”

It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no military son, son, Lord
It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no fortunate one, one

  8. Failed POTUS Donny T. made any candidate he endorsed or stumped for manifestly radioactive — but I mean like Iodine-131 level radioactive — with all of them going down in flames, ugly-style!

Meanwhile, all of the candidates that Mayor Mamdani endorsed are winning or already won!

      1. That’s great…too bad for you that I’m a left-leaning Independent voter who doesn’t vote for establishment Dems and didn’t vote for Sleepy Joe (would never vote for a Repugnicant either, especially not for anyone part of the MAGAt cult).

I’m a common sense voter who sees the writing on the wall and all of the corruption by the current MAGAt 🪰 administration, who pilfer and enrich themselves and on the backs of hard working people while gutting resources that help the middle class and ordinary people. They then turn around and in the most bigoted ways they blame it on hardworking immigrants, people of color, working women, trans people, etc etc — hiding the fact that ballrooms and unwinnable wars take precedence over farmers and your average Joe who struggles to buy a home or pay the mortgage while stark wealth inequality and welfare for billionaires is their new normal.

  9. Teams and media definitively focus on USC. It’s one reason every game is a bit harder for the Trojans. Everyone always gets up for a USC game.

But that’s no excuse for not winning the games. Lincoln took one small step against Ohio State – let’s see if he can take an others.

    1. And what’s even crazier is that, after many former MAGAs voted for Dem candidates and helped them win, DJT still thinks most of his base is too stupid (I mean, can you blame him? There are those who will stick by him even as he continues to sucker and fleece them) to not see that most all of the candidates that he endorsed, especially in contested races, swung the pendulum and voted against his candidates as a YUUUGE F You 🖕to him.
