USC point guard Larry Friend, who passed away Tuesday, was an integral part of two of the best victories I witnessed over crosstown rival UCLA in 1985. The Trojans defeated the Bruins, 78-77, in double overtime at the Sports Arena on Feb. 1. The rematch on Feb. 28 was even better. The two teams went four overtimes at Pauley Pavilion. The score was tied, 78-78, … Continue reading A Larry Friend Memory
May is apparently the month of three stars. Kedon Slovis, a three-star quarterback from Scottsdale, Ariz., committed to USC today. Slovis (6-2, 186) also received offers from Hawaii, North Carolina State, New Mexico State, Oregon State, San Jose State, SMU, Arizona State, Indiana, Vanderbilt and UC Davis. Slovis will be a year behind JT Daniels. Maybe he figures he will redshirt and sit two seasons … Continue reading Three-Star QB Commits To USC

By the end of his career, he set USC assist records for for a game (14 versus Texas in 1985), season (176 in 1985) and … Continue reading Former USC Point Guard Larry Friend Dies
The news Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa nearly transferred to USC once again highlights how the Trojans botched his original recruitment. Tagovailoa always wanted to go to USC. Remember, Sam Darnold was redshirting at USC during Tagovailoa’s senior year of high school. You really had to be at Howard Jones Field to know how good Darnold would be. But USC (for some reason) stopped recruiting Tagovailoa for a period … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Friday Notes
Alabama’s freshman phenom QB, Tua Tagovailoa, who led the Crimson Tide to the national title game, said he considered transferring to USC: “I called my dad and asked him if my offer to the University of Southern California was still available. “I wanted to leave. I told my dad I wanted to go to a school where I thought it’d be easier for me and wouldn’t challenge me … Continue reading Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa Considered Transferring To USC
