The USC women’s water polo team lost to Stanford, 8-3, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. Yes, the days of Jovan Vavic are officially a memory. Vavic won six NCAA titles in women’s water polo at USC. But USC’s won one title since he was fired in 2019. Meanwhile, the women’s tennis team lost to Pepperdine, 4-0, in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA … Continue reading Quick Exits From NCAA’s
A USC spokesperson told the L.A. Times that Carol Folt was “moving all around campus (Friday) meeting with graduates and families.” Well, here’s some photos Folt released Friday: She’s a true legend, a campaigner for human rights, and now, she’s a Trojan. Our gratitude to @BillieJeanKing for six decades of human rights advocacy and athletics trailblazing. When I wrote about Parry O’Brien setting a world record in the shot put at the West Coast Relays in Fresno, it highlighted just how big this meet used to be. For example: USC had a publicist who wanted to go to the relays, which were the same day as the spring football game. The publicist made plans to drive up with NFL commissioner Pete … Continue reading The USC Friday Column Supplement
When USC canceled today’s main graduation ceremony two weeks ago, I said Carol Folt was afraid of getting booed. Well, Thursday’s events certainly bolstered that theory. USC held the Student Recognition Ceremony at Bovard Auditorium. Folt always opens the ceremony with her opening remarks. But she was nowhere to be found at Bovard. Keep in mind this event has the Creme de la creme of … Continue reading If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A USC Notes Column
USC has done it again. For the second straight year at the athletes’ graduation ceremony, it has given out the “Willis O’Hunter” Award, which is named after Willis O. Hunter. I thought last year that this was a social media error but it’s even spelled wrong on the official list of awards for athletes. I bet the plaque/trophy handed out to the athletes has his named … Continue reading Deja Vu All Over Again At USC
I hear USC wants to pay around $450,000 to its final basketball assistant coach. How hard can it be to find someone with that salary? Apparently, harder than expected. Eric Musselman wants someone with local ties but that’s still enough money to lure someone. Anyone. USC has scheduled a visit for Wyoming defensive tackle Gavin Meyer. He is also considering Wisconsin, Cal and Illinois. Meyer, … Continue reading USC Looking For Line Help
