Crazy Item Of The Day
You might have heard that Cal State Northridge fired basketball coach Reggie Theus and athletic director Brandon Martin today. Martin is a former USC basketball player, so there is a USC connection, as usual. It’s not every day a coach and athletic director get fired on the same day. But I spoke to a Big West coach today with close ties to CSUN, and he … Continue reading Crazy Item Of The Day
The Most Obvious Spring Practice Observation
USC coach Clay Helton said he would not pick a starting quarterback during spring drills. Kind of hard when your starter isn’t even at USC right now. Helton also said neither Matt Fink nor Jack Sears had an advantage at this time. Now that’s more interesting because with all the time Fink had last season in practice gettting real reps while Sears was on the … Continue reading The Most Obvious Spring Practice Observation

New USC running backs coach Tim Drevno said he was contacted by Trojans coach Clay Helton quite recently about the job. “It was like the last week or so when it happened,” Drevno said Tuesday. Deland McCullough left for the Kansas City Chiefs around Jan. 10. That was almost two months ago. And USC just contacted Drevno last week? One could argue that recruiting took … Continue reading Nothing Like Waiting Until The Last Minute
Several Players Missing From First Practice
Jack Jones will not participate in spring practice to focus on academics, according to Clay Helton. He is also suspended from the first game because of a team rules violation. Tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe is also out for the spring to let his hip heal that he hurt last year. Tailback Vavae Malepeai was limited, which meant Aca’cedric Ware was the lone scholarship tailback. Safety Marcell Tell … Continue reading Several Players Missing From First Practice
