USC Morning Buzz: A Lincoln Riley Strength Highlights A Weakness

When people talk about what a great coach Lincoln Riley is, they list the fact he coached three Heisman Trophy winners as a major accomplishment. It is something Riley can be proud of as a coach. But there is another way to look at it: Who else has won three Heismans and never won a national championship? Or maybe even just multiple Heismans and no … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: A Lincoln Riley Strength Highlights A Weakness

USC Picture Of The Night

It’s our latest installment of “banquets, luncheons and beauty contests.” Here is USC star wide receiver Hal Bedsole, on Oct. 11, 1961, at the (San Fernando) Valley Trojan Club meeting, where he told the crowd the Trojans were ready to face No. 8-ranked Notre Dame that Saturday. Listening to Bedsole, from left to right, USC halfback Jim Maples along with Van Nuys High School backs … Continue reading USC Picture Of The Night

No Pac-12 TV Rights Deal Imminent (Of Course)

So two of the five first-teamers are special teams. … Continue reading USC Notes: Five Players Named Pac-12 First Team

Morning Buzz: Can USC Keep Six Tailbacks Happy?

How will USC keep its running backs happy this season? The Trojans have six backs capable of playing this season and in the best of times, playing three is a challenge. I expect a lot from South Carolina-transfer MarShawn Lloyd. But returning tailback Austin Jones will play and Raleek Brown looks like he can play in the slot and at tailback. So where does that … Continue reading Morning Buzz: Can USC Keep Six Tailbacks Happy?

Dave Borelli, USC’s Most Successful Women’s Coach, Passes Away

Dave Borelli, who won seven national titles as coach of the USC women’s tennis team, has died, according to the university. No cause of death was announced. His seven national titles are still the most won by a USC women’s sport. And USC women’s tennis has not won a national title since Borelli left in 1988. He won national titles in 1977 (2), 1978, 1979, … Continue reading Dave Borelli, USC’s Most Successful Women’s Coach, Passes Away
